Effect of hot isostatic pressing on the cast Ti6Al4V alloy with shrinkage cavities inside: Healing behavior, microstructure evolution and tensile property

Qian Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the healing behavior, microstructure evolution, and tensile properties of a cast Ti6Al4V alloy with millimeter-scale shrinkage cavities during hot isostatic pressing (HIP). X-ray computed tomography (CT) was used to track the closure process of pores during HIP. The results showed that HIP has the potential to close the shrinkage cavities and the main closure mechanism is plastic deformation. The microstructure analysis revealed the rotation of crystalline lattice and the breakdown of alpha lamellae during HIP. The study also found that HIP treatment improved metallurgical bonding and enhanced the tensile properties.

Effects of heat treatments on microstructures of TiAl alloys

Wen Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of heat treatments on the microstructure of gamma-TiAl alloys, finding that alloys with different Al contents form different microstructures after heat treatment at different temperatures. The study also discussed the effects of heat treatments on grain refinement and other microstructural parameters.
