Microstructural characterisation and mechanical evaluation of Ti-15Mo manufactured by laser metal deposition

Edohamen Awannegbe et al.

Summary: A bidirectional powder deposition strategy was used to additively manufacture Ti-15Mo wt% using laser metal deposition. The microstructure and deformation mechanisms were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, electron backscattering diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. Three distinct zones, including fusion, remelted, and heat affected zones, were found in all 25 deposited layers with coarse columnar grains, and Mo segregation was observed in the microstructure. Deformation accommodation in the beta matrix was achieved by slip, twinning, and martensite and omega D formation contrary to the expected twinning.

Constitutive modelling of thermomechanical abnormalities due to dynamic strain aging in commercially pure titanium

Arhum Hassan et al.

Summary: Dynamic Strain Aging (DSA) refers to the irregular increase in metal strength resulting from the diffusion of impurity atoms and their interactions with dislocations at specific strain rates and temperatures. This study modifies a physical-based model to capture DSA in commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) over a wide range of strain rates and temperatures.

Summary: A metastable Ti-10V-3Fe-3Al alloy processed by powder metallurgy is thermo-mechanically processed to obtain a dual-phase (alpha and beta) microstructure. The deformation mechanisms of the compressed sample, including the formation of deformation twins and martensite, are thoroughly investigated.

Stress-induced martensitic transformation in a β-solution treated Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al alloy during compressive deformation

Xinkai Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, the compressive deformation behavior of a beta solution treated Ti-1023 alloy was analyzed at room temperature. The results revealed that stress-induced martensitic transformation dominated the compressive deformation process, with different strain rates leading to varying work hardening rates and triggering stresses. Additionally, novel deformation mechanisms of alpha '' martensite, such as {111}(α'') twinning and kinking structure, were observed during the compression deformation.
