Electrical, luminescence, and microwave-assisted reduction behaviour of alkali vs. alkaline earth metal ion-modified graphene oxide membranes

Wenshuai Jiang et al.

Summary: In this study, GO membranes regulated by different ions were prepared. The introduction of alkali metal ions improved the conductivity of RGO membranes, while the introduction of alkaline earth metal ions decreased their conductivity. Additionally, the introduction of ions resulted in significantly different changes in luminescence spectra and microwave reduction effects. These findings have potentially important applications in the preparation, application, and ion detection of GO membranes.

Dynamic diffusion and precipitation processes across calcium silicate membranes

Julian Rieder et al.

Summary: This study characterized the composition of calcium silicate membranes in macroscopic silica garden tubes. Unlike previously studied iron- and cobalt-based silica gardens, the calcium silicate membrane formed was homogeneous and impermeable to most species, resulting in concentration gradients across the membrane. These findings provide insights into the ion diffusion mechanism in Portland cements and concrete, as well as the durability issues and restricted use of raw materials.

Bubble motion and reaction in different viscous liquids

Mark W. Hlawitschka et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the numerical and experimental investigation of the influence of viscosity on bubble motion and reaction in reactive bubble columns. A Euler-Lagrange framework is used to improve the simulation of the complex hydrodynamics/reaction interaction. Experimental data in a cylindrical bubble column was obtained to validate the simulations, and it was found that viscosity and surface tension changed due to the presence of glycerol and surfactants.

Iron Powders as a Potential Material for Arsenic Removal in Aqueous Systems

Kameswara Srikar Sista et al.

Summary: Iron powders are potential materials for water remediation, especially in arsenic removal, due to their low cost, high reactivity, multiple removal mechanisms, and commercial availability. The presence of arsenic in various oxidation states makes its removal from aqueous systems a challenging problem. The physico-chemical properties of iron powders and the properties of the aqueous system play a significant role in steering the arsenic removal process.

Self-Propelled Chemical Garden Tubes

Qingpu Wang et al.

Summary: Synthetic autonomous locomotion has great potential in various research fields, showcasing targeted drug/cargo delivery and circumvention of kinetic and thermodynamic limitations. In this study, hollow cylindrical structures rich in catalytic manganese oxide were grown through the self-organization of precipitate tubes in chemical gardens, achieving self-propulsion through the ejection of oxygen bubbles. The method and key results are expected to be applicable to a wide range of materials and reactions.

The role of microparticles on the shape and surface tension of static bubbles

H. Wang et al.

Summary: By studying the effect of surface tension in microparticle-laden bubbles, a modified sessile bubble method was used to analyze the surface tension and shape of such bubbles. The results revealed that the surface tension of microparticle-laden bubbles remains consistent regardless of particle size.
