Polycaprolactone and poly-β-cyclodextrin polymer blend: a Biopolymers composite film for drug release

Francesca Antonella Sepulveda et al.

Summary: Biomedical films with drug carriers are more favored over traditional ones nowadays. In this study, PCL composite films with beta CD and beta CDP as ibuprofen carriers were prepared and showed different release rates. The incorporation of beta CD and beta CDP did not affect the thermal properties of the PCL films.

Esterification of cellulose using carboxylic acid-based deep eutectic solvents to produce high-yield cellulose nanofibers

Suling Liu et al.

Summary: This study utilized carboxylic acid-based deep eutectic solvents for pretreating cellulose, resulting in the production of cellulose nanofibers with widths less than 100 nm through simultaneous esterification modifications. Esterification modifications prevented over-hydrolysis and dissolution of cellulose while maintaining the cellulose I crystal structure. The esterified cellulose nanofibers showed improved dispersibility and interfacial compatibility with polylactic acid, leading to mechanical enhancement of CNF/PLA composites.

Encapsulation of Calcium Phosphates on Electrospun Nanofibers for Tissue Engineering Applications

Arputharaj Joseph Nathanael et al.

Summary: In tissue engineering, electrospinning is a versatile technique that produces nanofibers similar to the extracellular matrix for biomedical applications. Modification of biopolymers with inorganic ions can enhance specific functional characteristics. The addition of calcium phosphate materials enhances cell infiltration, differentiation, and biomineralization.

Novel drug delivery systems based on triaxial electrospinning based nanofibers

Kajal Ghosal et al.

Summary: Triaxial electrospinning is a widely studied process for forming nanofibers, particularly in drug delivery systems. It enables the formation of complex nanostructures, resolves limited drug solubility issues, and controls drug release kinetics. This method has great potential in developing sophisticated nanomaterials for specific drug delivery applications.

Metronidazole- and Amoxicillin-Loaded PLGA and PCL Nanofibers as Potential Drug Delivery Systems for the Treatment of Periodontitis: In Vitro and In Vivo Evaluations

Shahla Mirzaeei et al.

Summary: PLGA and PCL nanofibers containing metronidazole and amoxicillin prepared by electrospinning showed uniform morphology, high tensile strength, low cytotoxicity, moderate drug release speed, and good compatibility in animal models after implantation. These designed nanofibers have the potential to be used as drug delivery systems for treating periodontitis, with reduced dosing frequency and increased patient compliance.
