Toward better metal flow control in electrohydraulic sheet forming by combining with electromagnetic approach

Changxing Li et al.

Summary: Electrohydraulic sheet forming is a high-velocity manufacturing process that plastically shapes metals through underwater electrical discharge, and combining controlled stretching and drawing deformation modes can actively control material flow and improve forming quality.

Deformation behavior of 5052 aluminum alloy sheets during electromagnetic hydraulic forming

Ziqin Yan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates a new high-strain-rate forming method called electromagnetic hydraulic forming (EMHF) by combining hydraulic forming (HF) and electromagnetic forming (EMF). The experimental and simulation studies confirm that EMHF specimens have higher forming height and limit strain compared with HF specimens, which is attributed to the uniform dislocation distribution at the microscopic level and the inertial effect at the macroscopic level. The simulation results are consistent with the experimental results, verifying the reliability of the simulation. Additionally, EMHF retains the strong shape control ability of HF and shows potential for widespread use in industrial manufacturing.

A novel method to evaluate the high strain rate formability of sheet metals under impact hydroforming

Da-Yong Chen et al.

Summary: A novel method using impact hydroforming (IHF) was proposed to evaluate high strain rate formability of Al-Cu-Mg 2B06-O sheets in this study. It combined 2D and 3D HSR formability curves to establish the relationship between impact energy, drawing height ratio and deep drawing ratio. Finite element (FE) modeling with fluid-structure interaction (FSI) algorithm was realized to accurately predict the formability, showing reliable and efficient results in comparison to experiments.

Investigation of formability, microstructures and post-forming mechanical properties of heat-treatable aluminum alloys subjected to pre-aged hardening warm forming

Lin Hua et al.

Summary: The PHF process improves the formability of aluminum alloys, with stamping tests confirming the feasibility of the technique on cap beam components. Optical and transmission electron microscopy observations show that the grain sizes of pre-aged alloys are not significantly affected by the stamping process in the PHF process.

Less-loading hydroforming process for large-size hollow components of aluminum alloy

Xiao-Lei Cui et al.

Summary: A novel less-loading hydroforming process is proposed for manufacturing large-size hollow components, which significantly reduces the required internal pressure, die closing force, and axial force compared to high-pressure hydroforming. The forming behavior of a large-size tubular component of aluminum alloy 5A06 is investigated through experiment and numerical simulation, providing insights for uniform manufacturing of large-size hollow components while avoiding wrinkles caused by excessive circumferential compression or insufficient supporting pressure.

Improvement in tensile properties of pre-strained steel specimen by applying pulsed electric current

Anuranjan Kumar et al.

Summary: This study aims to improve the mechanical properties of pre-strained steel specimens by applying pulsed electric current. The experimental results show that electro-pulsing parameters play a crucial role in damage recovery, with even a small change in pulse duration impacting the tensile properties significantly. Damage healing and mechanical properties improvement are observed due to factors like Joule heating, thermal compressive stress, annihilation of dislocations, and collapse of microvoids.
