Lightweight, ultrastrong and high thermal-stable eutectic high-entropy alloys for elevated-temperature applications

Mingliang Wang et al.

Summary: Researchers proposed a strategy to design lightweight, strong, and high thermal-stable eutectic high-entropy alloys (EHEAs) by introducing an extremely stable Heusler-type ordered phase (L21 phase) containing a high-content of low-density elements and constructing a low lattice misfit eutectic-phase interface, which can lead to generate ultrafine and stable lamellar structures and high-density of coherent nanoprecipitates.

Deformation behavior and dynamic recrystallization mechanism of a novel high Nb containing TiAl alloy in (? plus ?) dual-phase field

Weigang Yang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the dynamic recrystallization (DRX), microstructure evolution, and texture of TiAl alloys with high Nb content (Ti-43Al-6Nb-1Mo-1Cr (at%)) during isothermal deformation. It is found that recrystallized γ grains with L10 structure dominate the deformation process at 1150 degrees C/ 0.005 s-1. Additionally, a deformation-induced γ/α2 -> α phase transformation occurs in the TiAl alloy. The texture of the α2 phase mainly maintains a transverse texture, while the γ phase exhibits a typical hot-rolled texture at low strain and a scattered texture at higher strains due to the nucleation of dynamic recrystallized grains. The variation in texture is mainly caused by different DRX behaviors at various strains.

Study on hot deformation behavior and processing map of a Ti-47.5Al-2.5V-1.0Cr-0.2Zr alloy with a fully lamellar microstructure

Xuejian Lin et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behavior of a Ti-47.5Al-2.5V-1.0Cr-0.2Zr alloy was investigated through thermal simulation experiments. A constitutive equation was established to describe the relationship between stress, strain rate, and temperature, and the predicted stress curve was consistent with the experimental results. The processing map identified the optimum hot deformation parameters, and the dominant deformation mechanisms of the TiAl alloy were DRX, dislocation movement, and twins.

Hot compression behaviors and microstructure evolutions of a cast dual-phase NiCoFeCrAl0.7 high-entropy alloy

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: The hot compression behaviors and microstructure evolutions of a dual-phase high-entropy alloy were investigated, showing that dynamic recrystallization played a key role in flow softening. A constitutive equation describing the correlations between flow stress and hot compression parameters was constructed, and the activation energy of the alloy was significantly improved. Continuous dynamic recrystallization was found to govern flow softening, with the substructure within the deformed microstructure evolving from disordered dislocations to DRX grains.

Summary: Eutectic alloys with near-equilibrium structures, impressive strength-ductility trade-off, and perfect castability were designed using a CALPHAD approach. Alloying with Cr and Al induced the formation of hypoeutectic, eutectic, and hypereutectic structures due to Laves phase precipitation, improving the mechanical characteristics of the alloys. The stable B2/C14 Laves phase microstructure after plastic deformation at high temperatures and the precipitation of a new D0(19) structured phase were observed, indicating new approaches for designing RHEAs with promising mechanical properties.
