Study on properties and precipitation behavior of 6000 series alloys with high Mg/Si ratios and Cu contents

Ruojin Zang et al.

Summary: In the artificial aging process of Al-MgSi-Cu alloys, increasing copper content and decreasing the Mg/Si ratio can promote the precipitation of fine metastable phases, with copper having a more significant effect. An alloy composition with a Mg/Si ratio of 1.5 was found to produce the maximum precipitation hardening response. Additionally, a high Mg/Si ratio can enhance the precipitation of disordered QP2 phases.

Nanocluster formation and two-step aging behavior in Al-Mg-Si(-xCu: X=0-4 mass%) alloys

InSu Kim et al.

Summary: The effects of Cu addition on clustering and two-step aging behavior in Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloys were analyzed, showing that cluster formation is influenced by Cu content and aging temperature, with different Cu contents resulting in different effects. Hardness testing can confirm the presence of clusters and thermal instability effects.

Comparing intergranular corrosion in Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloys with and without α-Al(Fe,Mn,Cu)Si particles

Adrian Lervik et al.

Summary: The study found that alpha-Al(Fe,Mn,Cu)Si particles in the model alloy without Fe and Mn additions can uniformly promote intergranular corrosion, but as time increases, the depth of IGC corrosion tends to be similar. The formation of Cu-rich particles during the corrosion process exacerbates the cathodic reactions.

Effect of second-phase particle evolution in a twin-roll-casted Al-Mg-Si alloy on recrystallization texture and mechanical anisotropy

Bing Lu et al.

Summary: In this study, the evolution of second-phase particles in a TRC Al-Mg-Si alloy and its influence on recrystallization texture and mechanical anisotropy were analyzed. Homogenization significantly affects particle evolution, which in turn affects the material's anisotropy. The distributions of second-phase particles control recrystallization texture and have a significant impact on mechanical properties.
