Aerodynamics Effect of Holes in UAV Wings Modified for VTOL Capability

Laith S. Sawaqed et al.

Summary: This research explores the possibility of modifying the X8 Skywalker from a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle into a convertiplane. Computational fluid dynamics and wind tunnel experiments were conducted to analyze the performance of different wing configurations. The results indicate that the proposed modifications can generate enough lift despite reducing the wing area, with the filleted hole configuration demonstrating less drag and turbulence effects at low angles of attack.

Effects of organic additives on calcium hydroxide crystallisation during lime slaking

Cecilia Pesce et al.

Summary: The study shows that organic compounds can influence the morphology of Ca(OH)(2) in cement, promoting quicker carbonation which is detrimental to the performance of concrete. This effect is more pronounced when additives are introduced before slaking, likely due to thermal degradation.

RILEM TC 277-LHS report: a review on the mechanisms of setting and hardening of lime-based binding systems

J. I. Alvarez et al.

Summary: The main objective of RILEM TC LHS-277 is to revise and propose test methods for lime-based repair materials, considering the differences between modern cement binders and lime-based materials. This includes a comprehensive study of mechanisms of setting and hardening for lime-based binders with different compositions.

Short- and long-term properties of lime mortars with water-reducers and a viscosity-modifier

B. A. Silva et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of water-reducing and viscosity-modifying admixtures in lime mortars, finding that water-reducing admixtures can improve mechanical strength but delay carbonation, while potato starch can increase porosity and carbonation rate without affecting mechanical strength. The combined use of these two admixtures can help minimize the disadvantages associated with their individual utilization in lime mortars.

Towards a better understanding of hot-mixed mortars for the conservation of historic buildings: the role of water temperature and steam during lime slaking

Cecilia Pesce et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of water temperature and steam on the characteristics of lime and related mortars, with results showing that mortars made with steam-slaked lime have better workability and water retention. The production technology of lime can produce mortars with improved characteristics, suitable for conservation and restoration work.
