Distribution, contamination and provenance of heavy metals in sediments from the nearshore area of Weihai City, eastern Shandong Peninsula, China

Jie Wan et al.

Summary: This study analyzed eight heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr, Cd, Hg, As, and Ni) in 85 seabed sediments off the coast of Weihai City, eastern Shandong Peninsula, China, to reveal their distributions, enrichment status, and pollutant sources. The results showed that Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr, As, and Ni were enriched in all bays, while Cd and Hg were more abundant in Weihai Bay, followed by Rongcheng Bay and Chaoyang Port. The contamination levels varied, with slight contamination of As and Pb, and slight contamination of Cd, Zn, and Hg in Weihai Bay.

Distribution and movement of heavy metals in sediments around the coastal areas under the influence of multiple factors: A case study from the junction of the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea

Jixuan Lv et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the distribution characteristics and sources of heavy metals in the surface sediments of the coastal waters off the northern Shandong Peninsula, finding that Cr, Pb, and Zn had similar distributions while As and Cd differed. The high concentrations of heavy metals were mainly concentrated in areas of residual current convergence and coastal current action, and the distribution of heavy metals was influenced by factors such as human activities, grain size, and hydrodynamic conditions.

Origin and geochemistry of surface sediments in the mud deposit area offshore the Shandong Peninsula, China

Zhu Yingtao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the type, element composition, and sources of surface sediments in the northeastern region off Shandong Peninsula by analyzing sediment samples. The results revealed that the sediments were mainly terrestrial, with the Huanghe and Changjiang Rivers being the main sources. The Yellow Sea Warm Current and North Shandong Peninsula Coastal Current were identified as the main forces carrying sediment from these sources, with a deficit of transported material in summer.
