Joint analysis of macrofaunal and meiofaunal assemblages improves the assessment of lagoonal environmental heterogeneity

Paolo Magni et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the macrofaunal and meiofaunal assemblages in a coastal lagoon and found that they showed distinct responses to environmental gradients. The relationship between the number of individuals and species richness in both assemblages followed theoretical predictions. The study also suggests that these relationships can be used as screening-level indicators to assess sediment quality and associated bioeffects in eutrophic lagoons.

The first national scale evaluation of total nitrogen stocks and burial rates of intertidal sediments along the entire coast of South Korea

Inha Kwon et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive assessment of total nitrogen stocks and burial rates in the tidal flats of Korea, highlighting the factors influencing nitrogen stocks and the valuable ecosystem service of cost-efficient nitrogen removal capacity. The economic value of total nitrogen removal was estimated to be significant both in Korea and globally.
