Effects of typical marine environmental factors on the bioluminescence intensity of individual Noctiluca scintillans

Shuguo Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of temperature, salinity, and nutrients on the bioluminescent intensity of Red Noctiluca scintillans (RNS). Field and laboratory experiments reveal that the bioluminescent intensity of RNS is negatively correlated with temperature and salinity, but shows no significant correlation with nutrients. These relationships can be used to improve the prediction accuracy and spatial distribution of RNS bioluminescent intensity.

Bioluminescence of the tropical Indian Ocean: a multiple-scale variation

Sergey A. Piontkovski et al.

Summary: This study reveals the significant variation of bioluminescent potential in the upper mixed layer of the western Indian Ocean during the winter monsoon season. The maximal potential is associated with cyclonic eddy, and the fine-scale measurements show higher spatial heterogeneity. The trend of bioluminescent potential variance is similar to the zooplankton biomass.

Fast grid search and bootstrap-based inference for continuous two-phase polynomial regression models

Hyunju Son et al.

Summary: Two-phase polynomial regression models are widely used in ecology and public health to model nonlinear relationships. These models include threshold parameters that allow mean functions to change. The models are estimated using grid search algorithms and confidence bands are developed using bootstrap methods.
