Fish distribution and behaviour with regard to the time of day and the anthropogenic structural modification of the shallow littoral

Antigoni Samourdani et al.

Summary: The shallow littoral zone is influenced by various environmental factors and human activities, which can lead to changes in fish community composition and behavior. This study found that the time of day and benthic habitat type had an impact on the fish community composition, with different species showing preferences for different habitats. Diel differences were also observed in fish behavior, with greater activity during the day. These findings highlight the variability of littoral fish communities at small spatial and temporal scales, emphasizing the importance of considering these factors in sampling and monitoring efforts.

Fish diversity patterns along coastal habitats of the southeastern Galapagos archipelago and their relationship with environmental variables

Marjorie Riofrio-Lazo et al.

Summary: Coastal habitats in the Galapagos archipelago are important for the functioning of the marine ecosystem. This study examined the spatiotemporal changes in fish community structure in coastal habitats of San Cristobal Island. The results showed that the diversity patterns were mainly influenced by substrate type, followed by substrate and depth combination, with sea temperature having less influence. The fish communities exhibited high fidelity to their habitats and were able to tolerate strong changes in sea temperature.

Species richness and food-web structure jointly drive community biomass and its temporal stability in fish communities

Alain Danet et al.

Summary: The study found that in stream fish communities, species richness and average trophic level are positively related to annual biomass; community stability is promoted by mean trophic level but decreased by species richness; environmental conditions affect biomass and its stability mainly through effects on richness and network structure.

All shallow coastal habitats matter as nurseries for Mediterranean juvenile fish

Adrien Cheminee et al.

Summary: This study investigated juvenile fish assemblages in different habitat types along the southeast coast of France and found that species richness and abundance of fish were higher during the warm period. Natural rocky substrates and interfaces between seagrass beds and other habitats were identified as the richest habitats for fish.
