Novel epoxy/cyclic olefin copolymer/carbon structural composites with electro-activated self-healing properties

Davide Perin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the self-healing behavior of carbon fiber reinforced composites by depositing COC meshes on dry carbon fiber plies. The introduction of COC mesh reduces flexural stress and interlaminar shear strength. The laminates containing 8 wt% COC show a healing efficiency of 9.4% and 33.7% for Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness.

Fluorescence spectroscopy based characterisation method for aggregation behaviour of rhodamine B (RhB) in water, ethanol, and propanol

Seikh Mustafa Radiul et al.

Summary: The aggregation behavior of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye was studied in different solvents, and it was found that the critical concentration at which the monomer and dimer fluorescence intensity ratio becomes unity varies with the solvent. This critical concentration can serve as a characteristic parameter to study the aggregation behavior of the fluorophore in solvents.

Viscoelasticity, Tensile Properties, and Microstructure Development in Cyclic Olefin Copolymer/Polyolefin Elastomer Blends

Xiaoshan Pei et al.

Summary: The new ethylene/cyclic olefin copolymers (COCs), although a major breakthrough in traditional polyolefins, have limited applications due to their high brittleness. This study explores the blending of COCs with ethylene/1-octene copolymer (POE) to compensate for the rigidity. The research demonstrates the formation, expansion, and coalescence of droplets at the melting state, resulting in phase changes from spherical droplets to cocontinuity with rising POE components. The synchronous reinforcement and toughness are achieved at a medium ratio of POEs.

Nanofiber engineering of microporous polyimides through electrospinning: Influence of electrospinning parameters and salt addition

Fuat Topuz et al.

Summary: In this study, the electrospinning parameters and salt addition were explored to investigate their effects on the diameter, morphology, and spinnability of electrospun PI nanofibers. Addition of tetraethylammonium bromide (TEAB) salt significantly increased the conductivity of PI solutions, improved spinability, and resulted in thinner fibers. Molecular dynamic simulations revealed the macromolecular mechanism of improved spinnability and fiber morphology in the presence of an ammonium salt.
