Broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity of cinnamoyl esterase-producing Lactobacilli and their application in fermented rice bran

Jong-Hui Kim et al.

Summary: Fermentation by Limosilactobacillus fermentum J2 and Lactobacillus gasseri N2 can help extend the shelf life of rice bran-based products and produce bioactive compounds. The selected LAB strains showed strong antibacterial activity against various food-borne bacterial pathogens and toxin-producing fungal pathogens. The cell-free supernatants of all strains inhibit the growth of pathogens effectively.

Probiotic Potential of a Folate-Producing Strain Latilactobacillus sakei LZ217 and Its Modulation Effects on Human Gut Microbiota

Manman Liu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the folate production potential of strains isolated from raw milk and found that Latilactobacillus sakei LZ217 had the highest folate production. In vitro studies on human gut microbiota showed that LZ217 significantly increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria and promoted the production of butyric acid. These findings suggest that LZ217 could be a candidate probiotic for fortifying folate and regulating intestinal microecology.

Regulatory role of short-chain fatty acids in inflammatory bowel disease

Zhilin Zhang et al.

Summary: This article discusses the association between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and dysbiosis of the gut microbiota, which leads to persistent immune response and inflammation. Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) derived from fiber-rich diet produced by probiotic gut bacteria have shown anti-inflammatory effects and can delay the progression of IBD. The modulation of innate immune recognition and cytokine production by SCFAs may intervene in the progression of IBD. More studies are needed to investigate the clinical impact of SCFA.

Antibacterial Effects of Bacteriocin PLNC8 against Helicobacter pylori and Its Potential Mechanism of Action

Ying Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the action mechanism of the bipeptide bacteriocin PLNC8 against H. pylori ZJC03 through its chemical synthesis. The results showed that PLNC8 significantly inhibited the growth of H. pylori ZJC03, reduced its enzyme activity and ATP level, and disrupted its structure. This provides a new avenue for the prevention and control of H. pylori infection and lays a theoretical foundation for further research on its regulatory mechanism.

Lactobacillus plantarum ZJ316 Attenuates Helicobacter pylori-Induced Gastritis in C57BL/6 Mice

Qingqing Zhou et al.

Summary: The study found that Lactobacillus plantarum ZJ316 had significant anti-H. pylori ability, decreased IFN-gamma and IL-6 levels, increased IL-10 levels, repaired mucosal damage, and reduced the abundance of H. pylori. Different microbial families were more prevalent in the prevention and treatment groups, indicating that L. plantarum ZJ316 could be a potential candidate for the prevention and treatment of H. pylori-induced gastritis by modulating the gastric microbiota and reducing mucosal inflammation.
