Sevoflurane and isoflurane anesthesia induce redox imbalance, but only sevoflurane impairs vascular contraction

Thalita L. A. Rocha et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effects of sevoflurane and isoflurane on vascular function, nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability, and biomarkers of oxidative stress and inflammation. The results showed that sevoflurane anesthesia impaired vasocontraction, reduced NO bioavailability and cytokines, and increased MMP-2 activity, while isoflurane anesthesia did not have these effects.

Vascular endothelial growth factor and its receptors regulation in gestational diabetes mellitus and eclampsia

Alayi Bolatai et al.

Summary: This paper summarizes the mechanisms of unbalanced VEGF and receptor expression based on data from relevant literature on GDM and eclampsia. An imbalance in VEGF and its binding receptor is often associated with the occurrence of multiple pregnancy disorders. In recent years, researchers have focused on the potential role of VEGF and its receptors in the development of GDM and eclampsia.

Glibenclamide Increases Nitric Oxide Levels and Decreases Oxidative Stress in an In Vitro Model of Preeclampsia

Priscila Rezeck Nunes et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of glibenclamide on nitric oxide synthesis, oxidative stress, and antioxidant capacity in endothelial cells incubated with plasma from preeclamptic and normotensive pregnant women. The results showed that glibenclamide treatment increased nitric oxide levels, reduced oxidative stress, and enhanced the antioxidant capacity.

Placental Ischemia Says NO to Proper NOS-Mediated Control of Vascular Tone and Blood Pressure in Preeclampsia

Ana C. Palei et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of NOS isoforms and biochemistry, as well as the role of NO in blood pressure control during normal pregnancy, with a focus on the impact of placental malperfusion on NO bioavailability and the development of PE. The article also discusses strategies for targeting the NOS system therapeutically in treating PE. Throughout, the importance of experimental animal studies in understanding NOS biology and finding ways to prevent or alleviate PE is emphasized.
