Numerical Simulation of Wind Characteristics in Complex Mountains with Focus on Terrain Boundary Transition Curve

Jiawei He et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been an increasing number of projects developed in complex mountainous areas. The wind environment in such areas is extremely complex and poses a threat to the safety of buildings. Therefore, it is important to study the wind environment to understand the wind resistance of structures in mountainous areas. This study proposes a method to address the problem of truncated elevation differences at terrain boundaries, optimize the parameters of the wind tunnel contraction curve, and propose a transition curve applicable to the terrain boundary transition form.

Probabilistic wind spectrum model based on correlation of wind parameters in mountainous areas: Focusing on von Karman spectrum

Mingjin Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper systematically considers the nonstationary characteristics, randomness, and correlation of wind field parameters through field measurement data. Joint probability model and environmental contour model are constructed, and probabilistic turbulence wind spectrum models are obtained. The results show that the wind field has prominent nonstationary characteristics and the wind speed threshold has little effect on the disturbance. Furthermore, ignoring wind direction can lead to incorrect estimation of correlation characteristics between wind parameters. The wind spectrum constructed in this paper provides an essential reference for evaluating uncertainty in the design stage of long-span bridges.

Vibration phase difference analysis of long-span suspension bridge during flutter

Lianhuo Wu et al.

Summary: The research on vibration characteristics of long-span bridges is crucial for flutter analysis, but there is limited literature on the phase difference characteristic of the full bridge. This study aimed to investigate the vibration phase difference characteristics and mechanism along the main span during flutter. Time-domain flutter analysis was conducted in a long-span suspension bridge. The results revealed phase differences in vibration at the same positions in different directions, as well as at different positions in the same direction of the main girder and main cable, which varied along the main span. The findings provide insights into the flutter performance and mechanism of long-span bridges.

Field measurements and CFD simulations of wind characteristics at the Yellow River bridge site in a converging-channel terrain

Jia-Ling Song et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the airflow over unusual converging-channel terrain and examines the effects of complex terrain on wind speed and direction along a bridge structure. The study utilizes computational fluid dynamics simulations and field measurements to analyze the wind structure. The results reveal a wind speed-up in the valley and its exit, with the magnitude being sensitive to the approaching wind direction. The study also highlights the non-homogeneous nature of wind speeds and directions along the entire bridge structure due to the effects of complex terrain.

Shaohui Li et al.

Summary: This study focuses on wind detection over complex terrain and proposes a bistatic Doppler wind lidar system. By analyzing the uncertainty of a synthetic wind field, the optimal layout of the system is determined. Experimental results demonstrate that the bistatic wind lidar can accurately detect the wind field with high detection accuracy.

Field measurement study of wind characteristics in mountain terrain: Focusing on sudden intense winds

Fanying Jiang et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic field measurement of intense wind events in a mountainous area of southwestern China, identifying a series of sudden intense wind events and proposing an automatic classification method. It was found that sudden intense winds have relatively strong nonstationary characteristics, which are of significant importance for wind-resistant design of long-span bridges.

Wind characteristics and flutter performance of a long-span suspension bridge located in a deep-cutting gorge

Peng Hu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the wind characteristics and flutter performance of a long-span suspension bridge in a deep cutting gorge terrain. It found limitations in applying traditional wind power spectral density and proposed a two-parameter root coherence function model to address wind coherence issues. Experimental results showed that the spatial variability of wind fields significantly affects the wind-induced vibration behavior of the suspension bridge.

Comparison of wind characteristics in different directions of deep-cut gorges based on field measurements

Jinxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study shows that wind characteristic parameters of bridge sites vary greatly between directions, and the influence of wind direction on wind parameters distribution should be considered. The wind resistance of structures should take into account the combined effect of wind speed and incoming flow direction.

Field measurement study of wind characteristics at different measuring positions along a bridge in a mountain valley

Wanmin Ren et al.

Summary: The study investigated wind field characteristics at a bridge in a mountain valley using a non-stationary wind speed model. It found that terrain significantly influenced mean wind speed and direction. Strong-wind weather conditions measurements were analyzed non-stationary, showing the strong non-stationarity of the mountain valley wind field.

Wind Characteristics in Mountainous Valleys Obtained through Field Measurement

Feng Wang et al.

Summary: This research delved into the wind characteristics in mountainous environments in Western China, focusing on mountain passes and riverbanks. By setting up temporary observation stations and collecting data, the mean wind characteristics and fluctuating wind characteristics of the area were obtained. A comparison with the standard revealed strong nonstationary characteristics of the wind, emphasizing the need for wind field observations of mountain passes and riverbanks.
