Establishment of aerodynamic force model with varying wind yaw angles and its influences on the safety and comfort of the rail vehicle

Yan Han et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the effects of different wind yaw angles (fi) on the pressure distributions and aerodynamic coefficients of the CRH2 rail vehicle using the pressure measurement test method. It was found that there were significant differences between the aerodynamic coefficients obtained from the traditional sine rule and the test results. A modified sine rule model and a buffeting force model were proposed. The results showed that the traditional sine rule may lead to unconservative or unsafe conclusions on the operation safety of the rail vehicle.

A novel eigenvalue-based iterative simulation method for multi-dimensional homogeneous non-Gaussian stochastic vector fields

Yan Jiang et al.

Summary: This study develops a novel eigenvalue-based iterative simulation method for simulating multi-dimensional non-Gaussian stochastic vector fields. The method only requires one decomposition operation, avoiding the cumbersome Cholesky decomposition and random shuffle procedure, and it yields unique convergence result and presents a powerful ability in addressing cases with complex-valued spectral matrix.

Three-dimensional aerodynamic lift on a rectangular cylinder in turbulent flow at an angle of attack

Shaopeng Li et al.

Summary: The aim of this study is to derive the closed-form solution for the three-dimensional aerodynamic admittance (3D AAF) of the lift on a 5:1 rectangular cylinder in turbulent flow at an angle of attack (AoA) to analyze the unsteady effects of AoA. The study introduces the separated one- and two-wavenumber aerodynamic admittances to assess the contributions of u and w components of turbulence to the lift force at an AoA. The closed-form expressions for the one- and two-wavenumber spanwise correction factors of the 3D AAF are derived, providing insight into the unsteady effects of turbulence components and the distortion of the free-stream turbulence.

Probabilistic wind spectrum model based on correlation of wind parameters in mountainous areas: Focusing on von Karman spectrum

Mingjin Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper systematically considers the nonstationary characteristics, randomness, and correlation of wind field parameters through field measurement data. Joint probability model and environmental contour model are constructed, and probabilistic turbulence wind spectrum models are obtained. The results show that the wind field has prominent nonstationary characteristics and the wind speed threshold has little effect on the disturbance. Furthermore, ignoring wind direction can lead to incorrect estimation of correlation characteristics between wind parameters. The wind spectrum constructed in this paper provides an essential reference for evaluating uncertainty in the design stage of long-span bridges.

Measurements of the unsteady lift force on a 5:1 rectangular cylinder based on active-passive hybrid wind tunnel tests

Shaopeng Li et al.

Summary: An active-passive hybrid wind tunnel test method was used to investigate the unsteady lift force on a 5:1 rectangular cylinder. It was found that vertical wind fluctuations dominated the lift force at low frequencies, while streamwise turbulence significantly affected the energy distribution of the lift force at high frequencies. The contribution of streamwise wind fluctuations to unsteady lift became more pronounced as the angle of attack increased within a given range.

Vibration phase difference analysis of long-span suspension bridge during flutter

Lianhuo Wu et al.

Summary: The research on vibration characteristics of long-span bridges is crucial for flutter analysis, but there is limited literature on the phase difference characteristic of the full bridge. This study aimed to investigate the vibration phase difference characteristics and mechanism along the main span during flutter. Time-domain flutter analysis was conducted in a long-span suspension bridge. The results revealed phase differences in vibration at the same positions in different directions, as well as at different positions in the same direction of the main girder and main cable, which varied along the main span. The findings provide insights into the flutter performance and mechanism of long-span bridges.

Bridge deformation prediction based on SHM data using improved VMD and conditional KDE

Jingzhou Xin et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an innovative data-driven method based on improved variational mode decomposition and conditional kernel density estimation to accurately predict bridge deformation. The method optimizes the decomposition level number and suppresses the interference of irrelevant components to improve prediction accuracy. It also utilizes an auto-regression integrated moving average model to extract linear features hidden within the data and generates point and interval predictions using conditional kernel density estimation with a Gaussian distribution assumption.

The effect of turbulence intensity on the unsteady gust loading on a 5:1 rectangular cylinder

Shaopeng Li et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the effects of turbulence intensity on the three-dimensional spatial distribution of unsteady gust loading on a rectangular cylinder. The experimental results show that turbulence intensity has a noticeable influence on the gust loading. A closed-form solution of a three-dimensional aerodynamic admittance function is proposed to explain the mechanism of the three-dimensional aerodynamic effect of turbulence.

Study on the time-varying extreme value characteristic of the transient loads on a 5:1 rectangular cylinder subjected to a thunderstorm-like wind

Xin Li et al.

Summary: This paper experimentally studied the transient aerodynamic characteristics of a 5:1 rectangular cylinder under thunderstorm-like wind and analyzed the non-Gaussian features of transient pressures. A generalized time-varying extreme value model for nonstationary stochastic processes was proposed, revealing the potential underestimation of extreme loads by conventional models.
