Nonlinear modeling of a misaligned rotor under non-stationary operating conditions

Mohammad Rokn-Abadi et al.

Summary: A novel model is developed to investigate the angular acceleration of a nonlinear misaligned rotor passing through critical speeds under non-stationary operating conditions. The rotor is modeled as elastic with nonlinear inertia terms and a flexible bearing. Nonlinear equations of motion are derived and solved using the Lagrange method and finite element method. The effects of parameters such as shaft eccentricity, damping, and stiffness of the supports on the rotor's increase in angular speed passing through the critical speed are considered. The results indicate that a small amount of eccentricity prevents exceeding the rotor's elastic critical speed, and improper selection of support parameters may prevent the rotor from even passing its rigid critical speed.

Dynamic modeling and vibration analysis of a flexible gear transmission system

Jing Liu et al.

Summary: Vibrations are a key issue in gear transmission systems (GTSs) in the machinery industry. Previous vibration analyses treated the rotor as a rigid part, which failed to address the differences in rotor vibrations at different axial positions. To tackle this problem, a flexible-shaft gear-transmission system dynamic (FGDS) model is established using the finite element method. This model takes into account factors such as bearing stiffness, bearing contact force, time-varying meshing stiffness, and damping force. By comparing and analyzing the time and frequency domain vibrations of the FGDS and a rigid-shaft gear-transmission dynamic system (RGDS) model at different rotational speeds, it is found that the FGDS can obtain more accurate results and produces lower vibrations compared to the RGDS model. This study provides a new approach for dynamic modeling and vibration analysis of flexible GTSs.

Nonlinear responses of unbalanced flexible rotating shaft passing through critical speeds

Sadegh Amirzadegan et al.

Summary: This work investigates the nonlinear oscillations of an elastic rotating shaft with acceleration passing through critical speeds, using a mathematical model with Von-Karman higher-order deformations in bending. The study finds that the magnitude and position of mass unbalance significantly affect the dynamic behavior of the rotor system, and applied torque greatly influences dynamic responses leading to passing through critical speeds.

Summary: This paper proposes a comprehensive numerical dynamic model of a flexible-rotor bearing system based on nonlinear contact force methods, analyzing the influences on system displacements and spectrums. Results show that differences in frequency-amplitude characteristics between flexible and rigid rotor bearing systems are small at low speeds but significant at high speeds.
