Controlling of Chemical Bonding Structure, Wettability, Optical Characteristics of SiCN:H (SiC:H) Films Produced by PECVD Using Tetramethylsilane and Ammonia Mixture

Evgeniya Ermakova et al.

Summary: The PECVD SiC:H (SiCN:H) films were synthesized using tetramethylsilane (TMS) as a precursor and helium or ammonia as a source of nitrogen. The deposition conditions greatly influenced the structure and properties of the films. Ammonia gas effectively incorporated nitrogen atoms into the films, resulting in the transformation of film composition from SiC:H to SiN:H. Plasma treatment significantly altered the surface characteristics of the SiCN films, as observed through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and contact angle measurements.

The Effect of the Process Parameters on the Growth Rate and Composition of the Anti Scratch Films Deposited from TEOS by AP-PECVD on Polycarbonate

Anastasia S. Bil et al.

Summary: This paper reports on a study of anti-scratch silica-like coatings deposited on polycarbonate using an atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge. Plasma pretreatment in pure helium is found to significantly increase the PC surface energy and improve adhesion of the films. However, the introduction of oxygen did not show significant improvement in the coatings' properties.

Well-adhered hydrogenated amorphous carbon thin films on ferrous alloy using silicon-containing interlayers at low temperatures

V. Piroli et al.

Summary: Depositing a-SiCx:H interlayers at low temperatures using tetramethylsilane under low background pressure can enhance the adhesion of a-C:H thin films. The reduced oxygen content within the interlayer at low background pressure contributes to the significant increase in adhesion.

Tribological CCF-PEEK transfer film growth on cutting tool coating

Xin Dong et al.

Summary: The study investigates the transfer film growth of continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic poly-ether-ether-ketone (CCF-PEEK) on cutting tool coating. It is found that continuous CCF-PEEK transfer films can grow on titanium nitride (TiN), titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN), and diamond, and increasing load promotes the growth. Additionally, DLC can be used as countermate surfaces of CCF-PEEK composite with low friction and minimal CCF-PEEK wear debris.

Study of the methane flow influence in the micro-tribology behavior of DLC coatings deposited by PECVD: a Raman analysis

Cesar Daniel Rivera-Tello et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of methane flow on the micro-tribological behavior of diamond-like carbon coatings using Raman spectroscopy. The results showed a direct relationship between methane flow and coating thickness, and the analysis of Raman spectra helped establish the properties of the carbon coatings. Additionally, the study demonstrated a strong correlation between wear resistance and hardness with Raman parameters.

DLC (H) coated 13Cr SMSS by high-pulsed power CVD technique

Yukun Zhang et al.

Summary: Increasing the bias voltage was found to enhance the hardness and tribological properties of DLC films, leading to denser films with reduced grain size and surface roughness. Films with high H/E* and H-2/E*(3) ratios exhibited high elastic modulus and resistance to plastic deformation, reducing wear loss and providing solid lubrication through localized graphitization.

Effects of silicon doping on low-friction and high-hardness diamond-like carbon coating via filtered cathodic vacuum arc deposition

Jae-Il Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, the tribological characteristics of Si-doped diamond-like carbon coating were investigated against a SUJ2 ball. It was found that a moderate Si fraction could significantly decrease the coefficient of friction and running-in period, leading to the formation of a low-friction tribofilm. However, excessive Si doping beyond a critical point resulted in the destruction of the film due to reduced hardness.

On the adhesion of diamond-like carbon coatings deposited by low-pressure plasma on 316L stainless steel

Gabriel Morand et al.

Summary: The study investigates the use of plasma treatment to generate shallow metallic carbide layers for promoting DLC adhesion on 316L stainless steel surfaces. The presence of metallic carbides stabilizes and enhances DLC thin film deposition, improving adhesion. The research demonstrates that plasma can offer new insights into overcoming the lack of adhesion of DLC thin films on SS metallic surfaces.

Structural and optical properties o plasma-deposited a-C:H:Si:O:N films

Juliana Feletto Silveira Costa Lopes et al.

Summary: Thin a-C:H:Si:O:N films were deposited using plasma containing hexamethyldisiloxane, oxygen, and nitrogen at varying oxygen partial pressure. The deposition rates ranged from 10 to 27 nm min(-1). The films exhibited a surface roughness of around 10 nm and contained characteristic groups such as C=C, C=O, Si-C, and Si-O-Si. As the oxygen partial pressure increased, the films showed lower carbon and nitrogen content but higher oxygen and silicon content. The films had refractive indices around 1.5 and optical energy gaps that decreased from around 3.3 to 2.3 eV with increasing oxygen partial pressure. The Urbach energy decreased with increasing optical gap, indicating the characteristic of amorphous materials, and suggesting their potential as transparent barrier coatings.
