On the influence of material and shape of the hot particles on the ignition characteristics of coal dust

Xueqiang Shi et al.

Summary: The multi-field coupling of coal dust ignited by hot particles of different shapes and materials has been studied using a multi-physics coupling method. The thermal energy and thermal conductivity of hot particles have a positive impact on coal dust ignition. The minimum ignition temperature is 1150 K for metallic particles and 1250 K for non-metallic particles. In addition, as the hot particles temperature decreases, the hot spots move from the side to the top of the hot particles.

Arc bead ignition of a cellulose fuel bed derived from experimental and simulated data

Hui-Fei Lyu et al.

Summary: This study experimentally and numerically investigated the ignition behavior of cellulose fuel bed caused by arc beads. The effects of bead temperature and implantation depth on ignition phenomena were analyzed. A mathematical model was developed to describe the ignition mechanism, and the results can be used to reduce fire hazards related to arc beads in wildland-urban interface areas.

Ignition ability prediction model of biomass fuel by arc beads using logistic regression

Hui-Fei Lyu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of energy, diameter, and number of arc beads on biomass ignition probabilities. Experimental methods were used to generate arc beads with different energies, and alpha-cellulose materials were used as fuels. The study reveals that an electrical fault arc energy of approximately 175 J is the most dangerous condition for ignition. A logistic regression-based ignition probability model is developed, indicating that the diameter of the arc bead has a significant impact on ignition probability.

An experimental investigation on passive cooling of the photovoltaic panel using CuO nanofluid in a two-phase closed thermosyphon

Ahmet Acar et al.

Summary: The aim of this study is to enhance the efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) panels by implementing a two-phase closed thermosyphon system with CuO nanofluid as a passive cooling method. Experimental studies were conducted with a reference panel and five different passive cooling designs. The results showed that using heat pipes with CuO nanofluid as passive cooling effectively increased efficiency by reducing the panel's surface temperature.

Summary: This study examines the impact of energy consumption and usage of fossil sources, nuclear energy, and renewable energy on carbon dioxide emission. The results indicate that coal, oil, and natural gas consumption have a significant effect on CO2 emission, but the impact varies among different countries. The findings highlight the adverse effects of fossil fuels in high carbon producing countries.

Xiaoqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: Coupled thermodynamic disasters, such as coal fires and gas explosions, are among the most serious accidents in coal mines worldwide. This study proposes a dynamic pressure injection isolation technology for the collaborative control of these disasters in goaf, offering a new concept and method for their identification and prevention. This technology has been proven to effectively prevent and control coal spontaneous combustion and gas coupling disasters, ensuring safe and efficient mining in deep mines.

Visualization and heat transfer comparative analysis of two phase closed thermosyphon

Hao Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermal performance and inner phase-change heat transfer behaviors of two types of thermosyphons (corrugated and smooth) by conducting visualization and heat transfer experiments. The results show that the corrugated evaporator offers better thermal performance and boiling stability for the thermosyphons. The formation of a bullet-shaped bubble in the smooth thermosyphon causes a severe liquid up-throwing phenomenon, while radial expansion of the bubble head in the corrugated thermosyphon limits the axial bubble-growth rate and increases boiling disturbance, thereby improving the boiling heat transfer and reliability.

Investigation of thermal behavior and hazards quantification in spontaneous combustion fires of coal and coal gangue

Yuanbo Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermal behavior and hazard of coal and coal gangue fires, and tests the characteristics of heat release and thermal transfer during these fires. The results show differences between coal and coal gangue in terms of their heat release and thermal transfer capacities. Hazard zones during these fires are identified based on these characteristics, and a combustion growth index is established to quantify the hazard of these fires.

Effect of oxidation temperature and oxygen concentration on macro characteristics of pre-oxidised coal spontaneous combustion process

Hui-Fei Lu et al.

Summary: Pre-oxidised coal has poorer ignition performance and burnout capacity compared to raw coal. However, its combustion rate and short-term combustion intensity are higher than raw coal. The temperature at which thermal release occurs rapidly for pre-oxidised coal lags behind raw coal, and its maximum thermal release power is less than that of raw coal.
