In this study, a fibre and yarn level parametric modelling method based on the Rhino & Grasshopper package was developed to improve the accuracy of fabric simulation. The geometric and structural characteristics of fibre and spun yarn were analysed to build a three-dimensional yarn model. Realistic simulation of a woven fabric was carried out, incorporating yarn hairiness features for the first time. The results show that the fibre to fabric parametric modelling method based on Rhino & Grasshopper has high fidelity and broad application prospects.
Yarns and fabrics usually have regular structures such as periodic patterns as well as irregular texture such as surface hairiness. To improve the accuracy of fabric simulation, a fibre and yarn level parametric modelling method based on the Rhino & Grasshopper package was developed in this study. The geometric and structural characteristics of fibre and spun yarn were analysed. The fibre cross-section shape, packing distribution, and yarn hairiness were established to build a three-dimensional yarn model first. Then, realistic simulation of a woven fabric was carried out, incorporating yarn hairiness features for the first time. The results show that the fibre to fabric parametric modelling method based on Rhino & Grasshopper has high fidelity and broad application prospects.
