Oxygenated Hydrocarbons from Catalytic Hydrogenation of Carbon Dioxide

Wan Nor Roslam Wan Isahak et al.

Summary: Once active sites and selectivity are fully resolved, metal-free catalysts like 3D graphene or carbon nanotubes (CNT) can effectively substitute expensive noble metals for catalyzing CO2. CO2 hydrogenation into hydrocarbon compounds offers a promising method to convert environmental wastes into useful energy storage or industrial wealth, while also addressing the environmental and energy issues caused by CO2 emissions. The progress made in utilizing three-dimensional (3D) nanomaterials and their compounds as catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation is discussed, along with recent advances in catalytic performance and conversion mechanism using experiments and DFT simulations.

Effect of Lithium Salt Concentration on Materials Characteristics and Electrochemical Performance of Hybrid Inorganic/Polymer Solid Electrolyte for Solid-State Lithium-Ion Batteries

Debabrata Mohanty et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential of using a solid electrolyte as a replacement for flammable liquid electrolytes in lithium batteries. The composite solid electrolyte, composed of LiTFSI salt, PVDF-HFP polymer, and LATP ceramic powder, shows increased lithium-ion transfer and conductivity with higher LiTFSI salt concentration. However, the mechanical strength decreases when the percentage of LiTFSI exceeds 60%. The hybrid electrolyte with 60% LiTFSI content exhibits high ionic conductivity, wide electrochemical stability window, and good electrochemical stability.

Carbon-based metal-free electrocatalysts: from oxygen reduction to multifunctional electrocatalysis

Chuangang Hu et al.

Summary: Since the discovery of N-doped carbon nanotubes as the first carbon-based metal-free electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction in 2009, C-MFECs have shown multifunctional electrocatalytic activities for various reactions. While some C-MFECs have demonstrated comparable or superior performance to those based on noble metals, further research and development are required for practical applications in energy conversion and storage. The structure-property relationship and mechanistic understanding of C-MFECs, along with current challenges and future perspectives, are key areas of focus for advancing this field.

Carbon and metal-based catalysts for vanadium redox flow batteries: a perspective and review of recent progress

Anteneh Wodaje Bayeh et al.

Summary: Vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs) are a promising electrochemical energy storage system for large-scale applications, but their high production cost and relatively low energy efficiency are still limiting factors. The electrode is a critical component that significantly impacts the effectiveness and cost of VRFBs, and the development of an ideal electrocatalyst with specific properties is essential. Various modification methods for VRFB electrodes have been researched to enhance energy density and overall performance, while challenges in electrode materials development and future research directions are also discussed.
