Summary: This paper introduces an estimator that uses a local polynomial approximation to estimate the density and its derivatives. The estimator guarantees non-negativity and achieves the same optimal convergence rate both inside and on the boundary of the support of the density function. Additionally, our estimator compares favorably to other kernel-based methods in terms of asymptotic performance and computational ease.
