Skyrmions Under Control-FIB Irradiation as a Versatile Tool for Skyrmion Circuits

Valentin Ahrens et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the easy access to the skyrmion phase in W/CoFeB/MgO thin films by using optimized focused ion beam irradiation and annealing protocols. By analyzing ion-beam-engineered skyrmion hosting wires excited by sub-100 ns current pulses, the possibilities of controlling skyrmion nucleation, guiding their motion, and controlling their annihilation are explored. Overall, the key elements needed to develop extensive skyrmion networks are presented.

Spin-Wave Optics in YIG Realized by Ion-Beam Irradiation

Martina Kiechle et al.

Summary: Direct focused-ion-beam writing is proposed as a technology for realizing complex functional spin-wave devices, showcasing its potential through optically-inspired designs. Ion-beam irradiation is shown to precisely modify yttrium iron garnet films on a submicron scale, allowing for engineered magnonic index of refraction for desired applications. This non-destructive technique enables rapid fabrication of high-quality architectures in magnonic media, leading to minimal edge damage compared to conventional techniques. The demonstration of magnonic versions of optical devices suggests the possibility of building magnonic computing devices with similar complexity and computational power as their optical counterparts.

The Damage Analysis for Irradiation Tolerant Spin-Driven Thermoelectric Device Based on Single-Crystalline Y3Fe5O12/Pt Heterostructures

Jun'ichi Ieda et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the spin-driven thermoelectric (STE) device based on single-crystalline YIG/Pt heterostructures has tolerance to high-energy heavy ion beam irradiation, making it suitable for harsh environmental applications, and the thermoelectric and magnetic properties of the device are still finite at ion irradiation doses up to 10^12 ions/cm^2.

Advances in Magnetics Roadmap on Spin-Wave Computing

A. V. Chumak et al.

Summary: Magnonics is a discipline that explores the physical properties of spin waves and utilizes them for data processing. It offers several advantages, such as scalability to atomic dimensions, operation in high-frequency ranges, utilization of nonlinear and nonreciprocal phenomena, and compatibility with CMOS technology. Although primarily in the academic domain, extensive research is being conducted to address the scientific and technological challenges, with several proof-of-concept prototypes already realized in laboratories.

Composition-tunable magnon-polaron anomalies in spin Seebeck effects in epitaxial BixY3-xFe5O12 films

Takashi Kikkawa et al.

Summary: By investigating the magnon-polaron excitation in Bi(x)Y(3-x)IG films in spin Seebeck effects, we observed sharp peak structures and anomalies in the longitudinal SSE voltages. Increasing the Bi content resulted in a shift of the peak fields towards lower magnetic field values.

State tomography for magnetization dynamics

Tomosato Hioki et al.

Summary: This study proposes and demonstrates state tomography for magnetization dynamics, allowing us to obtain the density matrix and Wigner function of the magnetization dynamics. It was found that parametrically excited magnons can form a mixed state composed of two coherent states. Magnetization state tomography opens up new possibilities for exploring a wide range of states of magnons, such as squeezed states in condensed matter.
