Versatile TiO2 bandgap modification with metal, non-metal, noble metal, carbon material, and semiconductor for the photoelectrochemical water splitting and photocatalytic dye degradation performance

N. Ramesh Reddy et al.

Summary: TiO2 is a flexible material for photocatalytic applications. This study modified TiO2 using simple chemical methods to improve its absorption ability and suppress charge carrier recombination. By forming composites or adding dopants, the photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic performance of the materials were enhanced. Among them, the Fe2O3-TiO2 composite showed excellent results in both reactions, with a degradation efficiency of 94.4%. The photocatalytic characteristics were investigated using various characterization techniques, contributing to the development of new heterojunction semiconductors and dopants for photocatalytic applications.

Controlled photocatalytic activity of TiO2 inverse opal structures with atomic layer deposited (ALD) metal oxide thin films

Khai Pham et al.

Summary: Thin films of Al2O3, SiO2, and TiO2 deposited via ALD with different thicknesses showed varied effects on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 inverse opal structures, with 1 nm Al2O3 suppressing activity significantly and 10 nm ALD TiO2 enhancing it by 226%. The presence and thickness of the films affected the diffusion of electron and hole onto the surface, ultimately influencing the photocatalytic efficiency.

Green synthesis of RGO-ZnO mediated Ocimum basilicum leaves extract nanocomposite for antioxidant, antibacterial, antidiabetic and photocatalytic activity

Abdul Raouf Malik et al.

Summary: This study discusses the green chemistry of nanomaterials from synthesis to diverse biomedical applications. The researchers utilized Ocimum basilicum leaves extract as a reducing agent to synthesize ZnO nanoparticles. These green synthesized nanoparticles were then decorated on reduced graphene oxide sheets to form RGO-ZnO nanocomposites. The prepared RGO-ZnO nanocomposites exhibited good performance in antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity, antidiabetic activity, and photocatalytic activity.
