Influences of Al2O3 content on crystallization and physical properties of LAS glass-ceramics prepared from spodumene

Zhiqiang Zhou et al.

Summary: Low thermal expansion Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2 transparent glass-ceramics with low Li2O content and relatively high total content of Na2O and K2O were prepared from spodumene, and the effects of Al2O3 addition on their structure and properties were investigated. The addition of Al2O3 promoted the precipitation and transition of 8-quartz solid solution, resulting in smaller grain sizes and higher visible transmittance in the glass-ceramics. Samples with 21.00 wt.% Al2O3 content crystallized at 860 degrees Celsius exhibited the best mechanical properties among all tested samples.

Dual effect of ZrO2 on phase separation and crystallization in Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2-P2O5 glasses

Lifan Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of ZrO2 on the phase separation and crystallization of Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2-P2O5 glasses. The results showed that ZrO2 increased the crystallization temperature and promoted the separation of phosphate-rich phases. The findings revealed the beneficial role of ZrO2 in activating the nucleation of P2O5.

Structural rearrangements during sub- T g relaxation and nucleation in lithium disilicate glass revealed by a solid-state NMR and MD strategy

Henrik Bradtmueller et al.

Summary: The structural rearrangements during relaxation and crystal nucleation in lithium-disilicate glass were investigated using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. It was found that the change in the local environment of lithium, rather than the network former unit distribution, played a key role in the relaxation and nucleation processes. The crystal nucleation was accompanied by changes in the electric field gradients.

Nucleating role of P2O5 in nepheline-based transparent glass-ceramics

Jizhong Li et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the development of nepheline-based nanocrystalline transparent glass-ceramic designed in the Na2O-Al2O3-SiO2 ternary system nucleated with P2O5. By tracking the formation process of phosphate and nepheline nanocrystals, the optimization of nucleation and growth profile in the designed composition results in the formation of a transparent glass-ceramic with high optical transmittance.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of Al2O3 concentration on the phase formation and mechanical properties of lithium disilicate glass ceramics. The results showed that increasing Al2O3 content significantly affected the glass transition temperature, crystallization temperature, and mechanical properties of the material.
