Principles, design, structure and properties of ceramics for microwave absorption or transmission at high-temperatures

Daxin Li et al.

Summary: The multifunctional metastable SiBOCN system ceramics offer unique structure and adjustable dielectric properties for high-temperature applications, requiring rational co-design of multiscale structure and chemical composition. Key research areas include processing routes, microwave transmission and absorption mechanisms, material selection criteria, structure design principles, tunable microwave properties, and future challenges and prospects in this field.

Study on the oxygen diffusion in the oxide layers of SiBCN ceramics by SIMS

Meng Zhang et al.

Summary: SiBCN, SiC, and SiC-BN ceramics/composites were prepared using mechanical alloying combined with hot-pressing sintering method. The oxidation kinetics of SiBCN, SiC, and SiC-BN were analyzed by calculating the thickness of the oxide layers. The results showed that the BN(C) phase in SiBCN can slow down the generation rate of gases.

Oxidation kinetic behavior of SiBCN-Ta4HfC5 ceramics at 1600?

Bingzhu Wang et al.

Summary: This study explores the morphological/microstructural evolution and oxidation behavior of SiBCN-Ta4HfC5 ceramics at high temperature, and reveals the oxidation kinetic mechanisms. The research findings show that the excellent oxidation resistance of SiBCN-Ta4HfC5 is due to the formation of a dense oxide layer.

A comparative study on high temperature oxidation behavior of SiC, SiC-BN and SiBCN monoliths

Meng Zhang et al.

Summary: The study compared the oxidation behavior and mechanism of SiBCN monoliths with SiC and SiC-BN monoliths, revealing that SiBCN monoliths had better oxidation resistance due to the positive role of BN(C) phase during oxidation. At different temperatures, SiC and SiC-BN monoliths showed different levels of oxidation damage, with SiC-BN monoliths exhibiting more cracks and bubbles compared to SiC and SiBCN monoliths.

Enhanced ablation resistance of HfB2-HfC/SiBCN ceramics under an oxyacetylene torch environment

Qishuai Zhu et al.

Summary: By introducing nanosized HfB2, HfB2-HfC/SiBCN multiphase ceramics were fabricated with lower ablation rates and no cracks under combustion conditions, governed by oxidation of ceramic matrix, denudation of oxides, erosion by combustion flow, and re-oxidation of exposed matrix.
