Energy absorption of foam-filled corrugated core sandwich panels under quasi-static loading

Hossein Taghipoor et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of foam-filled on trapezoidal corrugated core and validates the results through experimental and numerical simulation. The results show that the bi-core sandwich panel without foam filling has a higher specific energy absorption rate.

In-plane energy absorption characteristics and mechanical properties of novel re-entrant honeycombs

Xiaolin Deng et al.

Summary: This paper proposes novel re-entrant honeycombs (NREH), designed with asymmetrical subunits to improve their mechanical properties. Three types of NREHs are compared, with similar sigma m and specific energy absorption (SEA) during in-plane impact. However, NREH-3 has a smaller Poisson's ratio. Analysis shows that increasing the wall thickness effectively improves the impact resistance of NREH-3. Additionally, NREH-3 is sensitive to impact velocity, with deformation models changing significantly at higher velocities.

Crashworthiness performance of thin-walled, square tubes with circular hole discontinuities under high-speed impact loading

Hossein Taghipoor et al.

Summary: The study found that an increase in tube length did not affect the maximum force in square thin-wall tubes under high strain rates, while an increase in hole diameter led to a decrease in the maximum force. Additionally, compared to tubes without holes, the presence of holes in square thin-wall tubes reduced the collapse force efficiency.

Analytical and experimental investigations on axial crushing of aluminum tube with vertically corrugated

Arameh Eyvazian et al.

Summary: The study found that aluminum circular tubes with vertical corrugations have better crashworthiness and energy absorption characteristics. The combination of corrugation number and tube diameter impacts energy absorption capacity, while vertical corrugations increase peak force but result in smoother force-displacement curves. The influence of corrugation number on crashworthiness performance was investigated, and an analytical relationship was developed for mean force based on experimental results. Improved Technique of Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (ITOPSIS) was used to select the best structure for energy absorption purposes.

Quasi-static axial crush response and energy absorption of composite wrapped metallic thin-walled tube

Hossein Taghipoor et al.

Summary: In this study, the energy absorption and collapse behaviors of composite-coated corrugation-reinforced cylindrical absorbers were investigated. The results showed that the composite-coating could improve the energy absorption, while the longitudinal and transverse corrugations had different effects on the performance of the absorbers. The use of combined corrugation could significantly impact the collapse behavior of the coated absorbers.

Crashworthiness analysis of gradient hierarchical multicellular columns evolved from the spatial folding

Xiaolin Deng et al.

Summary: Based on the gradient hierarchical distribution of vascular bundles of bamboo, the crashworthiness analysis of a gradient hierarchical multicellular column (GHMC) was conducted. The GHMC displayed better energy absorption ability compared to a square tube and could generate more folds.

T. N. Tran et al.

Summary: The paper proposes windowed shaped cuttings to reduce the high PCL of multi-cell structures and seeks optimal crashworthiness design through systematic investigation. Results show that the wall-to-wall connection type is more effective for standard tubes, while less favorable for windowed tubes.

Hierarchical optimization of a novel vehicle door system under side impact based on integrated weighting method

Weiwei Wang et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel door system that incorporates a negative Poisson's ratio structure for improved side crashworthiness and occupant protection. By conducting parameter sensitivity analysis and using a novel integrated weighting method, hierarchical optimization is performed to enhance overall performance in side structural crashworthiness, occupant protection, and lightweight design. The optimal door system demonstrates improved occupant protection and side crashworthiness compared to conventional doors.
