Optical coherence tomography-derived lipid core burden index and clinical outcomes: results from the CLIMA registry

Flavio Giuseppe Biccire et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the morphological characteristics and prognostic implications of the optical coherence tomography (OCT)-derived lipid core burden index (LCBI). The results showed that a high LCBI was associated with poor outcomes and vulnerable plaque features.

Identification of High-Risk Coronary Lesions by 3-Vessel Optical Coherence Tomography

Senqing Jiang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in identifying high-risk plaques in patients with acute myocardial infarction. The results showed that thin-cap fibroatheroma (TCFA) and minimal lumen area (MLA) <3.5 mm2 were independent predictors of adverse cardiac events. OCT imaging can aid in identifying patients and lesions at increased risk for adverse cardiac events in patients with acute myocardial infarction.

Effect of Alirocumab Added to High-Intensity Statin Therapy on Coronary Atherosclerosis in Patients With Acute Myocardial Infarction The PACMAN-AMI Randomized Clinical Trial

Lorenz Raber et al.

Summary: Among patients with acute myocardial infarction, the addition of biweekly subcutaneous alirocumab to high-intensity statin therapy resulted in significantly greater regression of coronary plaques in non-infarct-related arteries after 52 weeks. Further research is needed to understand whether alirocumab improves clinical outcomes in this population.

Summary: The study on the use of evolocumab in combination with statins for patients with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction showed that it can improve plaque composition in coronary arteries, with a stabilizing and regressive effect.

In vivo relationship between near-infrared spectroscony-detected lipid-rich plaques and morphological plaque characteristics by optical coherence tomography and intravascular ultrasound: a multimodality intravascular imaging study

Christian Zanchin et al.

Summary: The study assessed the morphological features of NIRS-detected LRPs using OCT and IVUS, finding that LRPs with higher maxLCBI(4mm) values were more likely to exhibit TCFA morphology and increased plaque burden. MaxLCBI(4mm) was identified as the best predictor for TCFA.
