Counterbalancing of electron and hole transferquantum dots for enhanced photocatalytic H-2 evolution

Ping Wang et al.

Summary: Understanding charge carrier transfer dynamics in artificial catalytic systems is crucial for designing efficient photocatalysts. In this study, sub-monolayer ZnSe-coated CdSe/CdS quantum dots were synthesized and used as a model catalyst for producing H-2 under light illumination. The growth of the ZnSe partial-shell was found to affect the electron and hole migration processes, leading to the optimization of the photocatalytic system's performance.

Dual Atomic Coherence in the Self-Assembly of Patchy Heterostructural Nanocrystals

Hua Zhu et al.

Summary: Advances in synthesis and self-assembly techniques of nanocrystals have allowed researchers to create various nanoparticle superlattices. However, achieving rotational order of nanoparticle building blocks within the lattice has proven to be more challenging. In this study, a combination of experiments and molecular dynamics simulations was used to investigate the self-assembly of heterostructural nanocrystals (HNCs). The self-assembled HNCs formed face-centered-cubic superlattices with well-defined orientational relationships between the atomic lattices of the quantum dot hosts and gold patches. The study provides a strategy for designing and fabricating nanocrystal superlattices with complex structures and delicate orientational order.

Bandgap atomistic calculations on hydrogen-passivated GeSi nanocrystals

Ovidiu Cojocaru et al.

Summary: A detailed study on the bandgap dependence of spherical Ge-rich GexSi1-x nanocrystals was conducted using atomistic density functional theory calculations. The results show a composition invariance of the bandgap diameter dependence, with the bandgap of NCs being well described by a power function for a certain diameter range. H-passivation of the NC surface helps accurately determine the NC bandgap by excluding surface states near the band edges.
