Improving TiO2 Anatase Nanostability Via Interface Segregation: The Role of the Ionic Radius

Andre L. da Silva et al.

Summary: Titanium dioxide nanoparticles have significance in photocatalysis and artificial photosynthesis research. Their properties depend on crystal polymorph, surface area, and ability to adsorb gas molecules. Understanding the relationship between surface thermochemistry and structural features is important for control and application.

Segregation effects of Tl and Li ions on the scintillation properties of NaI:Tl, Li single crystals

Jingkang Wang et al.

Summary: In this work, high-quality NaI:Tl and NaI:Tl,Li single crystals were grown by the multi-ampoule Bridgman method, with measurements of the Tl and Li ions concentrations and estimations of their segregation coefficients in NaI single crystals. The radioluminescence spectra, pulse height spectra, and scintillation decay kinetics of the crystals were systematically studied. While position-dependent differences were negligible for RL spectrum and scintillation decay time, the energy resolution at 662 keV gradually deteriorated along the solidification direction, with the light yield maintaining almost the same until reaching the last-to-freeze region.

Summary: Magnesium aluminate spinel (MAS) is widely used in technological applications due to its excellent properties and stability. This study reports the synthesis of nonstoichiometric single-phase spinel nanopowders at low temperatures and investigates the impact of chemical distribution on their stability.

Interface excess on Sb-doped TiO2 photocatalysts and its influence on photocatalytic activity

Henry Gandelman et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of Sb doping on the properties of TiO2 nanoparticles, finding that Sb interfacial segregation at both surface and grain boundaries can increase the specific surface areas, change the crystallite sizes, affect CO2 adsorption, and enhance photocatalytic activity, with a 53% increase in activity for 0.05 mol% Sb-doped TiO2 compared to undoped TiO2.

Interfacial energies in nanocrystalline complex oxides

Ricardo H. R. Castro

Summary: This paper presents the role of interfacial energies in understanding and controlling nanocrystalline complex oxides, and the intentional modification of interfacial energies through ionic doping. It introduces a new perspective on systematically understanding the role of interfacial energies in microstructural control, especially in nanocrystalline processing.

Interfacial segregation in Cl- -doped nano-ZnO polycrystalline semiconductors and its effect on electrical properties

Gustavo M. Fortes et al.

Summary: In this study, interfacial segregation was explored as a strategy to enhance the electrical conductivity of Cl--doped ZnO. Cl-anions were found to segregate at the surface and grain boundaries, leading to a significant reduction in electrical resistivity. The calculated electric potential barrier height and activation energy for conduction also decreased with Cl-doping.
