Cold Sintering of Highly Transparent Calcium Fluoride Nanoceramic as a Universal Platform for High-Power Lighting

Jie Gao et al.

Summary: This article reports a thermally robust all-inorganic color converter that can be used for high-power LED lighting. By utilizing an acid-mediated cold sintering process, oxygen-segregated CaF2 nanoparticles are densified, resulting in a visible transmittance of up to 75% at only 350 degrees C. Using optically isotropic CaF2 as a transparent platform, a phosphor-in-ceramics (PiC) converter based on Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ (YAG: Ce) phosphor is fabricated, achieving a luminous efficacy as high as 190 lm W-1. The cold-sintered CaF2 nanoceramic shows great potential as a general solution for next-generation high-power LED lighting.

Lowering the sintering temperature of a gadolinia-doped ceria functional layer using a layered Bi2O3 sintering aid for solid oxide fuel cells

Hojae Lee et al.

Summary: The study develops a method for fabricating a dense gadolinia-doped ceria (GDC) functional layer using a sacrificial bismuth oxide, Bi2O3, sintering aid layer above the GDC layer, even under constrained sintering conditions. This approach improves the solid oxide fuel cell performance significantly.

One-step synthesis and densification of BaTiO3 by reactive cold sintering

Ning Guo et al.

Summary: This article describes a one-step low-temperature reactive cold-sintering approach for preparing bulk BaTiO3 ceramics with nanograins. Densification is achieved through pressure-induced particle rearrangement and deposition of the reaction product, as well as grain coarsening. This method can also be applied to similar ceramics.

Hydrated precursor-assisted densification of hydroxyapatite and its composites by cold sintering

Ning Guo et al.

Summary: Densification of hydroxyapatite was achieved through cold sintering at temperatures below 200 ℃ with CaHPO4.2H2O as an additive. The influence of CaHPO4.2H2O content and temperature on the relative density of cold-sintered HA was investigated, with the elastic modulus, compressive strength, and flexural strength of the specimens slightly inferior to conventionally sintered dense HA. This strategy of densifying target products from their hydrated precursors presents a promising avenue for the development of cold sintering process.

Cold sintering of soda-lime glass

Levent Karacasulu et al.

Summary: The ordinary recycled soda lime glass powder was densified through cold sintering process with the aid of concentrated NaOH solution. Increasing processing time, temperature, and concentration of NaOH solution led to the formation of monolithic glass artifacts with higher relative densities. The highest densification (95.2%) was achieved when sintering was done at 250 degrees C for 20 minutes using 15 M NaOH solution.

Pd and GDC Co-infiltrated LSCM cathode for high-temperature CO2 electrolysis using solid oxide electrolysis cells

Seokhee Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, a modified cathode material based on LSCM is fabricated by co-infiltrating Pd metal and GDC nanoparticles, which enhances the electrocatalytic activity towards CO2 reduction. The increased numbers of active triple phase boundaries and surface oxygen vacancies resulting from the co-infiltration of Pd-GDC nanoparticles are attributed to the enhanced electrocatalytic activity of the Pd-GDC co-infiltrated LSCM cathode compared to LSCM.
