Direction-of-Arrival Estimation Based on Frequency Difference-Wavenumber Analysis for Sparse Vertical Array Configuration

Donghyeon Kim et al.

Summary: Frequency-wavenumber (f-k) analysis is used to estimate the direction of arrival (DOA) of broadband signals received on a vertical array. When the array configuration is sparse, spatial sampling leads to aliasing error and multiple striation patterns can appear in the f-k domain. This paper extends the f-k analysis to a sparse receiver array and introduces the concept of frequency differencewavenumber (delta f-k) analysis for DOA estimation. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness of the proposed delta f-k analysis in estimating the DOA of cracking sounds generated by snapping shrimps.

Unambiguous broadband direction of arrival estimation based on improved extended frequency-difference method

Xin Wang et al.

Summary: This paper considers the issue of bearing ambiguity in direction of arrival (DOA) estimation due to spatial aliasing in cases where the minimum wavelength of the broadband signal being processed is smaller than the element spacing of a uniform linear array (ULA). The paper presents an extended frequency-difference (FD) method to address this problem and establishes a decision criterion for distinguishing the linearly varying aliasing component in the extended FD space. The proposed method successfully achieves unambiguous broadband DOA estimation by suppressing spatial aliasing in the extended FD space.

Difference-Frequency MUSIC for DOAs

Yongsung Park et al.

Summary: This article presents a method for estimating the direction-of-arrivals of plane waves in a high-frequency region without spatial aliasing using multi-frequency processing. The method utilizes the difference frequency between two high frequencies to process the data effectively. It introduces a MUSIC-based method to handle multiple difference frequencies and snapshots.

Aliasing-free broadband direction of arrival estimation using a frequency-difference technique

Long Yang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an aliasing-free broadband direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm for uniform linear arrays (ULAs), achieving aliasing-free spatial spectrum through frequency-difference (FD) operation. The method can provide satisfactory estimation even in strong interference environments, as demonstrated by simulations and experimental results.

Frequency-difference autoproduct cross-term analysis and cancellation for improved ambiguity surface robustness

David J. Geroski et al.

Summary: Frequency-differencing or autoproduct processing techniques have been found to increase the robustness of acoustic array signal processing algorithms to environmental uncertainty, although some metrics such as ambiguity surface peak values and dynamic range may be lower than expected.
