Efficacy of the parasitic wasp, Dinarmus basalis Rondani (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae), in reducing infestations by the cowpea beetle, Callosobruchus maculatus (L.) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Bruchinae)

Mobolade D. Akinbuluma et al.

Summary: This study found that only D. basalis was associated with C. maculatus in the surveyed markets in Nigeria. D. basalis was effective in controlling C. maculatus, especially with four consecutive applications. Additionally, D. basalis showed a greater preference for infested cowpea varieties compared to clean air. The study also highlighted the importance of olfactory cues in the host-searching behavior of D. basalis.

Synergistic control of Callosobruchus maculatus Fab. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) by releases of an oophagous and a larval parasitoid in experimental cowpea storage systems

Koi Wenceslas Kam et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the effects of releasing different parasitoid species (Dinarmus basalis and Uscana lariophaga) on the populations of C. maculatus. The results show that the combined releases of both parasitoid species can better control the pest and significantly reduce seed losses during storage.

Management of stored grain pest with special reference to Callosobruchus maculatus, a major pest of cowpea: A review

Kalpna et al.

Summary: Bruchids are a harmful pest that affects stored grain pulses, particularly in tropical and subtropical areas. The use of chemical insecticides provides control, but brings adverse health effects. Therefore, alternative and safe pest control methods, including traditional and modern techniques, should be considered.
