Xinquan Zhou et al.

Summary: A new generation X-ray storage phosphor material, CsCdCl3:Mn2+, Zr4+, was designed and synthesized with improved performance by manipulating Mn2+ site occupation and heterovalent substitution. This material exhibited zero-thermal-quenching radioluminescence and anti-TQ X-ray-activated persistent luminescence, achieving high storage capacities and high-resolution X-ray imaging.

Pr3+doped Y3GaO6 luminescent thermometer for high temperature conditions

Huimin Li et al.

Summary: Contactless thermometers based on fluorescence intensity ratio have advantages over traditional contact thermometers, but few materials are suitable for high temperature measurement. This study developed Y3GaO6:xPr3+ luminescent thermometers using Pr3+ as the emitter. The parameters for temperature measurement were determined by analyzing the peak intensity ratio at different temperatures. Y3GaO6: 0.01Pr3+ exhibited excellent temperature sensitivity, with a relative sensitivity of 4.09% K-1 in a wide temperature range. The varying luminescence colors of Y3GaO6:xPr3+ allowed for thermometric visualization.

Multi-responsive deep-ultraviolet emission in praseodymium-doped phosphors for microbial sterilization

Xinquan Zhou et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated a heterovalent substituting strategy to achieve multimode deep-UV emission in a defect-rich host, by beneficially activating defect site reconstruction and regulating different traps. The multi-responsive deep-UV emitter exhibits persistent luminescence and photo-stimulated luminescence, and responds to different convenient light sources, providing insights into developing UV light sources for sterilization applications.

Designing Color-tunable luminescent thermometers and information encryption based on Pr3+ or Sm3+ doped SrNb2O6: Tb3+ phosphors via energy transfer

Zhen Sun et al.

Summary: Color-tunable luminescence intensity ratio thermometers and information encryption are designed using different energy transfer mechanisms. Two types of thermometric materials, SrNb2O6: Tb3+, Pr3+ and SrNb2O6: Tb3+, Sm3+, are prepared. The temperature sensing properties of (5D4→7F5)Tb3+/(1D2→3H4)Pr3+ and (5D4→7F5)Tb3+/(4G5/2→6H7/2)Sm3+ are different due to distinct energy transfer processes, providing visualization of temperature measurement. Additionally, multi-mode color emission of Tb3+ or Pr3+ doped SrNb2O6 enables information hiding.

Multi-Mode Color-Tunable Long Persistent Luminescence in Single-Component Coordination Polymers

Zheng Wang et al.

Summary: A series of metal-organic coordination polymers displaying color-tunable long persistent luminescence (LPL) were successfully synthesized in this study, achieving multi-mode dynamic color tuning. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and theoretical calculations revealed that the modification of LPL was due to the balanced action from single molecule and aggregate triplet excited states caused by an external heavy-atom effect.

Exploring Intrinsic Electron-Trapping Centers for Persistent Luminescence in Bi3+-Doped LiREGeO4 (RE = Y, Sc, Lu): Mechanistic Origin from First-Principles Calculations

Zheng Quo et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the optical transitions, formation energies, and charge-transition levels of dopants and intrinsic point defects in Bi3+-doped LiREGeO4 compounds using hybrid functional theory calculations. The results revealed that the charging process for persistent luminescence is due to D-band transition of Bi3+ and involves electrons from dopants in trapping and detrapping processes. The main electron-trapping centers identified were antisite defects Ge-Li(0), interstitial defects Li-i(0), and dopants Bi2+.

Enhancing Light and X-Ray Charging in Persistent Luminescence Nanocrystals for Orthogonal Afterglow Anti-Counterfeiting

Kai Huang et al.

Summary: This study presents a simple method to enhance the afterglow intensity of persistent luminescence nanoparticles (PLNPs) and maintain their uniform size and morphology through nanoscale atomic level substitution. Additionally, a light/X-ray orthogonally encrypted spatio-temporal dual-dimensional afterglow anti-counterfeiting technique is demonstrated using these nanoparticles, as the two excitations (light and X-ray) are independent of each other.
