Fabrication of cerium oxide films with thickness and hydrophobicity gradients

Dapeng Zhu et al.

Summary: This study successfully achieved surfaces with hydrophobicity gradients by preparing cerium oxide films on tilted substrates. The results show that the surface hydrophobicity is positively proportional to the roughness and thickness gradient, and larger thickness gradient leads to more obvious hydrophobicity gradient.

Raman spectroscopy as a powerful tool to characterize ceria-based catalysts

Stephane Loridant

Summary: This paper reviews the various opportunities offered by Raman spectroscopy for advanced characterization of ceria-based catalysts, including spectral modifications induced by nanocrystallinity, defects, doping, reduction, identification of supported molecular species, isolated atoms, nanoclusters, surface modes, hydroxyl groups, and reaction intermediates. In situ/operando studies for environmental catalysis are also summarized, highlighting Raman spectroscopy as a powerful tool for characterizing ceria-based catalysts.

The gas sensor utilizing CeO2 nanorods for the low temperature detection of hydrogen

Haohua Li et al.

Summary: Ceria nanorods synthesized by solvothermal method exhibited enhanced hydrogen gas sensing performance compared to nanospheres, with a response value nearly 1.6 times higher at 100 degrees C. The optimal operating temperature of ceria was reduced to 100 degrees C after the morphology transformation, attributed to its larger specific surface area and smaller crystallite size.
