On damage behavior and stability of composite T-shaped stiffened panels under compression after impact considering impact locations

Ang Peng et al.

Summary: The impact location has a significant influence on the damage behavior and residual performance of composite stiffened panels. The study shows that impact at the skin center has little effect on residual performance, while impact at the flange tip leads to early buckling and compression failure of the local skin.

Flexural property evaluation of web reinforced GFRP-PET foam sandwich panel: Experimental study and numerical simulation

Honglei Xie et al.

Summary: This study focused on the flexural property of PET foam-filled lattice composite sandwich panels under four-point bending. Increasing the thickness of face sheet and PET foam can effectively improve the ultimate load of the panels. Experimental results and theoretical predictions showed errors within 10% for bending stiffness and ultimate load.

On stability and damage behavior of asymmetric sandwich panels under uniaxial compression

Jian Deng et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the stability and failure behavior of asymmetric sandwich panels are significantly influenced by the tapered region, which intensifies the asymmetry and introduces additional bending moments. Thicker core thickness enhances structural stiffness and load-bearing capacity. Large amounts of matrix cracking, fiber push-out, and core-skin delamination were observed in asymmetric sandwich panels.

Failure behavior of scarf-bonded woven fabric CFRP laminates

Evren Sonat et al.

Summary: The study shows that increasing scarf angle reduces the tensile strength of the repaired composite structures, resulting in different types of failure. Finite element analysis using cohesive zone modeling accurately predicts the experimentally observed response, with stress concentration distribution over the bonding area playing a crucial role in determining the failure type. Further investigation reveals that adhesive defects can significantly decrease the strength of the bonded specimens.

A novel computational framework for exact stress analysis and bending behavior of sandwich panels with non-homogeneous cores

Jian Deng et al.

Summary: A novel computational framework is proposed for accurate stress analysis of sandwich panels with any non-homogeneous cores based on the quadrature element method (QEM). Through an explicit formulation for an arbitrary number of nodes and nodes of any type, an accurate stiffness matrix can be obtained to predict the deformation and stress components of sandwich panels under different loads accurately.

Elasticity Solution for Bending and Frequency Behavior of Sandwich Cylindrical Shell with FG-CNTRC Face-Sheets and Polymer Core Under Initial Stresses

M. Safarpour et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the high-accuracy analysis of bending and frequency response of a sandwich cylindrical shell with functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composite face-sheets and a polymeric core under various mechanical loading and initial axial stress conditions. The study presents analytical solutions and employs the state-space based differential quadrature method to determine the bending and frequency response of the structure, providing insights into the influences of parameters such as initial stress and mechanical loading. Results of the study can be used as benchmarks to evaluate the validity of the traditional two-dimensional theory.
