Bioremoval of rhodamine B dye from aqueous solution by using agricultural solid waste (almond shell): experimental and DFT modeling studies

Zeynep Mine Senol et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of almond shells as a biosorbent for the removal of rhodamine B from aqueous solution. The almond shell biosorbent was characterized and various parameters were studied to understand their influence on the biosorption process. The results showed that almond shells have potential as an alternative material for dye removal.

Synthesis and characterization of a new hybrid polymer composite (pollene@polyacrylamide) and its applicability in uranyl ions adsorption

Zeynep Mine Senol et al.

Summary: Polyacrylamide-pollen (P@PAA) composite adsorbent was synthesized using polyacrylamide hydrogel and pollen via in situ polymerization method. The adsorptive properties of P@PAA hybrid polymer composite adsorbent for the removal of UO22+ ions were investigated. Structural characterizations showed various functional group variations in the P@PAA composite adsorbent. The maximum adsorption capacity of UO22+ ions was found to be 0.695 mol kg(-1). Thermodynamic parameters confirmed the spontaneous adsorption of UO22+ ions onto P@PAA hybrid polymer composite.

Insights into sorption speciation of uranium on phlogopite: Evidence from TRLFS and DFT calculation

Duoqiang Pan et al.

Summary: In this study, the sorption speciation of U(VI) at the phlogopite/water interface was investigated using batch sorption experiments, time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy, and theoretical calculation. The results showed that pH strongly influenced the sorption of U(VI) on phlogopite, while ionic strength had a weak effect. Multiple inner-sphere surface species were formed at the interface, and their abundances varied with pH. The formation of uranyl oxyhydroxides was observed at high pH. Density functional theory calculation indicated that a bidentate complex was the most favorable sorption configuration for U(VI) at acidic condition. The temperature had an enhancing effect on U(VI) sorption, but this effect was reversible.

Improper Estimation of Thermodynamic Parameters in Adsorption Studies with Distribution Coefficient KD (qe/Ce) or Freundlich Constant (KF): Considerations from the Derivation of Dimensionless Thermodynamic Equilibrium Constant and Suggestions

Hai Nguyen Tran

Summary: This study discusses the important thermodynamic parameters and the errors in their calculation in solid-liquid adsorption processes. The derivation of thermodynamic equilibrium constant and the inconsistent application of distribution coefficient and Freundlich constant for calculating these parameters are addressed. Correcting these misconceptions is crucial for improving the quality of research papers in this field.

High-Performance Material for the Effective Removal of Uranyl Ion from Solution: Computationally Supported Experimental Studies

Selcuk Simsek et al.

Summary: This study investigated the performance of a water-insoluble Fe complex as an adsorbent in uranium recovery and removal. The adsorption process was analyzed based on various parameters, and the results showed that adsorption increased with pH and followed the Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models. The adsorption process was also found to be endothermic and energy-consuming. The computational data supported the experimental studies.

Xiaolan Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanisms of nickel (Ni(II)) adsorption on hydroxyapatite (HAP) with two different particle sizes. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of nano-HAP was higher than that of micro-HAP, and the adsorption mechanisms were different for the two sizes.

Insight into the adsorption of europium(III) on muscovite and phlogopite: Effects of pH, electrolytes, humic substances and mica structures

Hanyu Wu et al.

Summary: Eu(III) adsorption on muscovite and phlogopite was investigated under different conditions, showing pH dependency and Na+ independent for both micas, with interlayer sites only available on phlogopite under Na+ and Ca2+ electrolytes. Adsorption of Eu(III) on phlogopite led to interlayer expansion, and the addition of fulvic acid affected both the adsorption behavior of Eu(III) and the structural alteration of phlogopite.

Aggrandizement of uranium (VI) removal performance of Lentinus concinnus biomass by attachment of 2,5-diaminobenzenesulfonic acid ligand

Omur Celikbicak et al.

Summary: The study found that the native and DABSA attached Lentinus concinnus biomasses showed significantly increased uranium ion adsorption capacity at 25 degrees C. The negative Delta G degrees values indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous, mainly attributed to amine, carboxyl, and sulfate groups identified by ATR-FTIR data.
