Awareness and Attitude of Surgeons regarding Dental Erosion on Patients Who Underwent Bariatric Surgery

Omir Aldowah

Summary: This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the awareness and attitude of general surgeons regarding dental erosion in patients who underwent bariatric surgery. The survey results showed inadequate awareness and attitude among general surgeons, particularly regarding the relationship between dental erosion and acid reflux or vomiting. This highlights the need for further measures to prevent oral health complications.

Long-term caries prevention of dental sealants and fluoride varnish in children with autism spectrum disorders: a retrospective cohort study

Araxi Balian et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare two strategies for caries prevention in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). The results showed that the combined use of dental sealant and fluoride varnish was more effective in reducing caries risk in the first permanent molars of ASDs children compared to fluoride varnish alone.

Collagen-depletion strategies in dentin as alternatives to the hybrid layer concept and their effect on bond strength: a systematic review

Antonio H. S. Delgado et al.

Summary: This review aimed to determine whether collagen-depletion strategies after acid-etching procedures could improve the bond strength of resin-based materials to dentin. The results showed that using collagen-depletion strategies did not decrease the bond strength, while enzymatic treatment methods improved the bond strength to dentin. Specific collagen-depletion strategies seemed to have a favorable role in improving the immediate bond strengths to dentin. However, further research with a sound methodology is required to consolidate these findings, including the evaluation of other proteolytic agents and long-term outcomes.

Etch-mineralizing treatment to improve dentin bonding

Yaoxin Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of etch-mineralizing solution on dentin bonding strength. Results showed the treated dentin had improved bonding strength, remineralization, and antibacterial properties compared to the control group. The treatment offers a novel therapeutic strategy for ideal dentin bonding strength and longevity of restorations.

Effect of a Stannous Fluoride Dentifrice on Biofilm Composition, Gene Expression and Biomechanical Properties

Hardeep Kaur Gumber et al.

Summary: An in situ study examined the effects of a dentifrice containing 0.454% stannous fluoride (SnF2) on oral biofilm composition and properties. The results showed that brushing with the SnF2 dentifrice significantly reduced microcolony thickness, volume, and adhesive properties, while downregulating gene pathways associated with biofilm formation and cell adhesion.

Impact of mucin on the anti-erosive/anti-abrasive efficacy of chitosan and/or F/Sn in enamel in vitro

Benedikt Luka et al.

Summary: The application of stannous ions in combination with fluoride can reduce erosive tooth wear, and chitosan can enhance this effect, while mucin alone or in combination with chitosan does not show additional benefits in reducing tissue loss.

Long-Term Use of Oral Hygiene Products Containing Stannous and Fluoride Ions: Effect on Viable Salivary Bacteria

Anne Brigitte Kruse et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the microbial composition in the saliva of participants using fluoride and stannous ion products versus those using stannous ion-free products. It was found that the use of stannous ions had no negative effects on the oral microbiota and could potentially have a stabilizing effect on health-associated bacteria.

A randomised clinical study investigating efficacy of a stannous fluoride toothpaste in improving gingival health after 3 weeks' use

Amina Acherkouk et al.

Summary: Three weeks of twice-daily brushing with a 0.454% stannous fluoride toothpaste resulted in significantly lower gingival bleeding, inflammation, and plaque levels compared to the control group. These benefits were observed as early as 2 weeks of use, indicating the rapid effectiveness of stannous fluoride in reducing plaque and gingivitis.
