Fatigue performance of endodontically treated premolars restored with direct and indirect cuspal coverage restorations utilizing fiber-reinforced cores

Mark Frater et al.

Summary: In this in vitro study, it was found that using flowable short-fiber-reinforced composite (SFRC) with fiber post and CAD/CAM overlays can result in higher fatigue survival rates when restoring endodontically treated premolars. Additionally, using custom-made fiber posts and SFRC as post luting core material showed good fatigue resistance and survival when restoring ET premolars.

Short fiber-reinforced resin-based composites (SFRCs); Current status and future perspectives

Abdulrahman Alshabib et al.

Summary: This article introduces a technique for placing resin-based composite in large posterior cavities using short fiber-reinforced resin-based composite (SFRC) as a biomimetic approach. SFRC can prevent restorative fracture by effectively stopping cracks. The article also discusses the characteristics and mechanisms of SFRC and explores future developments in SFRCs with nano fibers and different resin monomers.

Push-Out Bond Strength of Endodontic Posts Cemented to Extracted Teeth: An In-Vitro Evaluation

Syed Rashid Habib et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the bond strength between prefabricated fiber and metal posts and natural dentin. The results showed that metal posts had slightly higher retention compared to fiber posts, and an increase in post size improved retention.

Effect of fibre-reinforced composite as a post-obturation restorative material on fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth: A systematic review

Eshani H. Shah et al.

Summary: Fibre-reinforced composite (FRC) as a post-obturation material can increase the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth, although not to the level of intact teeth. Polyethylene and short fibre-reinforced composites show superior fracture resistance compared to glass FRC, and restoring teeth with FRC along with retention slots on the occlusal surfaces can enhance fracture resistance. Favourable fractures are commonly seen at the enamel and dentin levels, with adhesive fractures also occurring.

Fatigue behavior of endodontically treated premolars restored with different fiber-reinforced designs

Mark Frater et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the use of individually-made FRC post and SFRC as luting-core material for restoring endodontically treated premolars shows promising achievement in terms of fatigue resistance and survival, with significant differences compared to intact teeth.

Can fiber-reinforced resin composites alone substitute adhesively luted intraradicular post and core materials under static and dynamic loading?

Thomas Pasquale Casanova et al.

Summary: The study found that the fracture strength of teeth was significantly affected by the type of intraradicular posts and core materials, as well as fatigue conditions. After cyclic loading, some groups showed significantly lower initial strength values, with the TP group presenting mainly cohesive failure in the crown material. Other groups mainly exhibited irreparable failures.

Fatigue failure of anterior teeth without ferrule restored with individualized fiber-reinforced post-core foundations

Mark Frater et al.

Summary: The study found that for extensively damaged anterior teeth without ferrule, using multiple unidirectional FRC posts is recommended for better survival rates. There were significant differences in survival rates among the groups, and almost all specimens fractured in a restorable manner.
