Organization-Wide Approaches to Foster Effective Unit-Level Efforts to Improve Clinician Well-Being

Tait D. Shanafelt et al.

Summary: Health care organizations play a crucial role in addressing occupational distress and promoting clinician well-being. Overcoming this barrier requires a system-level approach to unit-specific improvement efforts.

Associations among infection prevention professionals' mental/physical health, lifestyle behaviors, shift length, race, and workplace wellness support during COVID-19

Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the mental and physical health, as well as lifestyle behaviors of infection prevention professionals (IPs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that a small percentage of IPs met the guidelines for sleep, physical activity, and fruit and vegetable consumption. Rates of depression, anxiety, and burnout were high among IPs. IPs in frontline and administrative roles had more negative mental health impacts. IPs with organizational wellness support had better wellbeing outcomes. IPs working longer hours were more likely to experience worsening physical and mental health. There were no significant differences in the impact of COVID-19 on lifestyle behaviors between white and racially/ethnically diverse IPs.
