Building efficient and durable 3D nanotubes electrode for solid oxide electrolytic cells

Chunming Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, a synergetic regulation strategy is proposed to improve the CO2 adsorption capacity and increase the adsorption sites on the cathode surface. The strategy is demonstrated in a Cu-doped three-dimensional porous Sr2Fe1.3Cu0.2Mo0.5O6-delta (SECuM) nanotube cathode. The results show that the designed SFCuM electrode exhibits higher electrolytic current density and lower polarization resistance, along with good stability during continuous operation.

Surface reconstruction of defective SrTi0.7Cu0.2Mo0.1O3-8 perovskite oxide induced by in-situ copper nanoparticle exsolution for high-performance direct CO2 electrolysis

Xiaoxia Yang et al.

Summary: Solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) offers a viable solution for efficient electrochemical conversion of CO2 into valuable products and electricity utilization. However, the slow cathode kinetics caused by poor catalytic activity of electrode material hinders its application. In this study, we propose a series of perovskite oxides SrxTi0.7Cu0.2Mo0.1O3-8 (SxTCM, x = 1, 0.975, 0.95) as cathodes, which have stimulated abundant oxygen vacancies and act as CO2 receptors. In-situ generated Cu nanoparticles on STCM substrate provide active sites for CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR), demonstrating a general strategy for developing efficient catalysts for CO2RR.

Summary: In this study, reduced Co or Ni doped Pr0.4Sr0.6Fe0.9Mo0.1O3 perovskite oxides were used as the cathode for SOEC, and Co-Fe alloy nanoparticles and NiFe10.8 alloy nanoparticles were exsolved or attached to the perovskite matrix after reduction. The reduced Pr0.4Sr0.6Ni0.2Fe0.7Mo0.1O3 exhibited the highest oxygen vacancy concentration and CO2 adsorption ability, showing the best catalytic activity for CO2 reduction reaction.

Improved CO2 electrolysis by a Fe nanoparticle-decorated (Ce, La, Sr)(CrFe) O3-6 perovskite using a combined strategy of lattice defect-building

Hong Chang et al.

Summary: A Fe nanoparticle-decorated (Ce, La, Sr)(CrFe)O3-6 perovskite was obtained to improve the electrocatalytic activity of solid oxide cells in CO2 electrolysis. The Fe-CLSCF material showed a high current density of 2.21 A cm-2 and a high faraday efficiency of 97.2% in CO2 electrolysis mode. In the SOFC mode, a peak power density of 188 mW cm-2 was achieved. Experiment and calculation indicated that perovskite materials with more oxygen vacancies were more likely to adsorb and activate CO2.
