Investigation of structural and magnetic properties of Al substituted Ba0.9La0.1Fe12-xAlxO19 hexaferrites prepared by solid-state reaction method

P. da Silva-Soares et al.

Summary: The impact of Al and La addition on the structural and magnetic properties of barium hexaferrite compound Ba0.9La0.1Fe12-xAlxO19 was studied. It was found that the concentration of Al3+ ions affects the lattice parameters and cell volume, with the minimum value observed at x = 0.7. The addition of Al also influenced the saturation magnetization and coercive field, reaching minimum and maximum values at x = 0.7 and x = 1.0, respectively.

Dielectric and temperature dependent magnetic studies of Al3+ substituted Ba0.4La0.1Sr0.5AlxFe12-xO19 hexaferrite for microwave application

Hodam Karnajit Singh et al.

Summary: In this study, Al3+ substituted polycrystalline Ba0.4La0.1Sr0.5AlxFe12-xO19 hexaferrite samples were prepared using the solid-state method. The structural, morphology, dielectric, and temperature dependent magnetic properties were systematically studied. The results showed that Al3+ substitution led to a decrease in lattice parameters, a shift in Raman peaks, and a decrease in complex dielectric constant. Additionally, the saturation magnetization decreased, the magnetic anisotropy constant decreased, and the anisotropy field and coercivity increased with increasing temperature and Al3+ concentration. The analysis using Bloch's spin wave theory deviated from the expected behavior, but Dyson's approximation fitted well with the experimental data. The samples exhibited uniaxial hexagonal crystal symmetry, making them suitable for permanent magnets and microwave applications.

Summary: The study found that La3+ substitution significantly affects the hopping and relaxation mechanism of charge carriers, as evidenced by frequency-dependent imaginary impedance and electric modulus. Arrhenius plots showed parallel conduction mechanism in the system. The complex electric modulus spectrum distinguished the capacitive contribution of grain, grain boundary, and electric effect.

Enhanced magnetic anisotropy in lanthanum M-type hexaferrites by quantum-confined charge transfer

Churna Bhandari et al.

Summary: Iron-based hexaferrites, such as LaFe12O19 (LaM), play a crucial role in magnetic devices as critical-element-free permanent magnet components. The lanthanum substitution in LaM introduces extra electrons, leading to a significant enhancement in magnetocrystalline anisotropy. By studying the electronic structure using density functional theory, we found that localized charge transfer from lanthanum to iron plays a key role in determining the magnetization along the c axis, resulting in a narrow valence band. The strong agreement between calculated uniaxial magnetic anisotropy energies and experimental results suggests the potential for hosting other rare earth elements in LaM for various applications, such as microwave-optical quantum transduction.

Anisotropy of the electrical properties of a single crystal of BaFe11.25Ti0.75O19 M-type barium hexaferrite

V. E. Zhivulin et al.

Summary: The electrical and dielectric properties of the barium hexaferrite single crystal BaFe11.25Ti0.75O19 were found to strongly depend on the crystallographic direction, with the electrical conductivity differing by 8 orders of magnitude along different crystallographic axes. The direction of crystallographic axis C (axis of easy magnetization) was shown to influence the conductivity depending on frequency, highlighting the importance of considering both chemical composition and cutting direction for material properties in further technology development.

Investigation on Non-Debye type relaxation and polaronic conduction mechanism in ZnCr2O4 ternary spinel oxide

Muhammad Javed et al.

Summary: The ternary spinel chromite ZnCr2O4 was synthesized using the sol-gel auto-combustion method and its dielectric relaxation and transport behavior were studied in detail through complex impedance spectroscopy. Two relaxation processes were observed in the material, with non-overlapping small polaron tunneling identified as the dominant electrical transport mechanism. The AC conductivity followed Jonscher power law and the DC conductivity obeyed Mott and Davis law. Discussions were made on the frequency and temperature dependence of dielectric constant and loss factor.
