Two-dimensional microlens array for low-cost high-resolution bio-imaging

Somaiyeh Khoubafarin et al.

Summary: Mobile microscopes with a low-cost imaging substrate containing a two-dimensional microlens array enable multi-modal imaging with resolution beyond the diffraction limit. The substrate can be easily attached and detached from the sample, allowing imaging with sub-400nm resolution using a low magnification objective lens. This technique provides a low-cost and easy-to-use method for improving the resolution of multi-modal imaging systems.

Detection of Apoptotic and Necrotic Cell Death using Holographic Microscopy

Md Alamgir Kabir et al.

Summary: Cell death pathways are crucial for maintaining homeostasis in multicellular organisms, and any dysregulation can lead to diseases like cancer. This study presents a high-throughput and label-free method, using lensless holographic microscopy, to identify the most common forms of cell death, programmed (apoptosis) and unprogrammed (necrosis). The method allows real-time observation of cell morphology changes and employs deep learning for automated classification of cell death processes with over 93% accuracy.

Monitoring the efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs using dark field imaging

Somaiyeh Khoubafarin et al.

Summary: In this study, an automated label-free method was developed using dark field microscopy to test the efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs by identifying apoptotic cell death based on the scattering signature of cancer cells. A neural network was trained to distinguish between cell death mechanisms and predict cell viability in real time, achieving over 95% accuracy. This technique eliminates the need for additional steps like staining or adding conjugates, making it user-friendly, cost-effective, and high throughput.

A Novel Thienopyrimidine Analog, TPH104, Mediates Immunogenic Cell Death in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cells

Diwakar Bastihalli Tukaramrao et al.

Summary: This study reports a novel compound, TPH104, that induces a unique, non-apoptotic cell death in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells by activating dendritic cells (DCs). TPH104 enhances the tumor immunogenic microenvironment to increase the efficacy of conventional chemotherapy for TNBC.
