Remarkable improvement of photoelectrochemical water splitting in pristine and black anodic TiO2 nanotubes by enhancing microstructural ordering and uniformity

Fatemeh Habibi-Hagh et al.

Summary: By enhancing the tube ordering and subsequent electrochemical reduction, the PEC activity of anodic TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) can be improved. The effects of the first-step anodization time on the ordering of TNTs and subsequent electrolytic reduction were investigated, and the improved PEC water splitting was confirmed. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy revealed enhanced charge carrier separation and charge transfer in highly ordered TNTs, leading to improved PEC performance.

Influence of Sn doping on the structural, magnetic, optical and photocatalytic properties of hematite (α-Fe2O3) nanoparticles

Nina Popov et al.

Summary: This study synthesized Sn-doped hematite nanoparticles of uniform size and shape through hydrothermal co-precipitation and calcination, and analyzed the effects of Sn doping on their properties. It was found that Sn doping led to expansion of unit cell size, changes in shape, and alterations in optical and magnetic properties of the nanoparticles.

Efficient Photocatalytic Charge Separation at Anatase-Hematite Heterojunctions with a Tuned Three-Dimensional Cocatalytic NiO Support

Thaju Chithrajakumary Bhagya et al.

Summary: This study explores a design strategy of loading active materials into porous cocatalytic supports for rapid charge separation in photocatalytic hydrogen generation, resulting in a three-dimensional ternary heterostructure with efficient and sustained hydrogen production. The introduction of NiO cocatalysts and abundant active sites inside porous NiO have modified the electronic structure, reducing charge transfer resistance and enabling faster interfacial charge transfer, leading to enhanced visible light absorption characteristics. The optimized heterogeneous structure achieved substantial hydrogen generation with an apparent quantum efficiency of 31.74%, showing potential for large-scale energy-related applications.

Summary: This study investigated the photoelectrochemical performance of ternary sulfide photoelectrodes with the same nanostructure and applied bidirectional p-n heterojunctions. The use of ZnIn2S4/CuInS2 and CuInS2/ZnIn2S4 as photoanode and photocathode in the unassisted tandem PEC cell device achieved a relatively high photocurrent density of 0.06 mA cm(-2), providing new ideas for the design and manufacture of high-efficiency unassisted tandem PEC cell devices.
