Tuning the Interfacial Dipole Moment of Spacer Cations for Charge Extraction in Efficient and Ultrastable Perovskite Solar Cells

Yuankun Qiu et al.

Summary: The design of the spacer cation in 2D perovskites plays a crucial role in defect passivation and carrier extraction. By manipulating the number of fluorine atoms on the para-position of the benzene ring, the dipole moment of 2D cations can be finely tuned, affecting the interfacial dipole at the 2D/3D heterojunction interface. A highly dipolar 2D perovskite layer at the interface between the 3D perovskite and hole-transporting material enhances charge transport and minimizes charge trapping, leading to high efficiency and stability in solar cells.

Understanding and Designing Tailor-Made Additives for Controlling Nucleation: Case Study of p-Aminobenzoic Acid Crystallizing from Ethanolic Solutions

Peter L. Kaskiewicz et al.

Summary: A workflow combining molecular modeling and experimental techniques is used to tailor additive screening and crystallization control, focusing on the impact of carboxylic acid-containing additives on nucleation of a target compound. Tailor-made additives with stronger carboxylic group dimer interactions with the compound are found to stabilize dimers in solution and influence nucleation pathways. Experimental results demonstrate the ability of tailor-made additives to change the nucleation mechanism and increase effective interfacial tension.

Changing Gly311 to an acidic amino acid in the MATE family protein DTX6 enhances Arabidopsis resistance to the dihydropyridine herbicides

Zeyu Lv et al.

Summary: The study identified a mutant Arabidopsis rtp1, showing strong resistance to herbicides paraquat and diquat. The mutant carries a point mutation in the gene encoding DTX6, resulting in amino acid change at residue 311. The research revealed the crucial role of residue 311 of DTX6 in paraquat and diquat resistance in Arabidopsis plants.

Spacer Cation Tuning Enables Vertically Oriented and Graded Quasi-2D Perovskites for Efficient Solar Cells

Ze Wang et al.

Summary: Halide substitution in phenethylammonium spacer cations is an effective strategy to enhance the performance of PEA based perovskite solar cells. The substitution eliminates the n = 1 2D perovskite phase, leading to perpendicular crystal orientation and orderly distribution of different n-phases in the films. This results in significantly improved power conversion efficiency and stability in the PSCs.
