Nitrogen-Containing Perylene Diimides: Molecular Design, Robust Aggregated Structures, and Advances in n-Type Organic Semiconductors

Shohei Kumagai et al.

Summary: Organic semiconductors (OSCs) have potential applications in flexible and printed electronic devices, but the practical use of Organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) is limited by lower carrier mobilities. N-type OSCs lag behind p-type OSCs in carrier mobility due to difficulties in achieving compatibility between aggregated structures and electron affinity. Rational molecular design principles are still needed for high-end device applications.

Luminescent High-Mobility 2D Organic Semiconductor Single Crystals

Roman S. Fedorenko et al.

Summary: 2D organic semiconductor single crystals have the potential to be used in ultrathin, flexible, and transparent field-effect devices. However, the light emissive properties of these crystals have not been reported, and achieving both high charge-carrier mobility and bright luminescence in one material is still a challenge. In this study, a high-mobility 2D organic semiconductor based on a BTBT-derivative is presented, which demonstrates both high charge-carrier mobility and prominent light emissive properties.

Summary: The study demonstrates that relying on calculations from only the Gamma-point instead of the full Brillouin zone may overestimate a in small molecule semiconductors by up to 28%. Additionally, mode analysis reveals that no single mode dominates the phonon spectrum, highlighting the need to develop design rules considering the full spectrum of phonon modes.

Systematic arrangement control of functional organic molecules

Ryota Akai et al.

Summary: This study reports a method for systematically controlling the arrangement of functional organic molecules by controlling their molecular arrangement without affecting their molecular and layered structure. By introducing disulfonic acid and a phenylene group, the transition from an edge-to-face herringbone structure to a face-to-face slipped stack structure was achieved. This systematic control established the true relationship between molecular arrangement and luminescence properties.

Non-Local Electron-Phonon Interaction in Naphthalene Diimide Derivatives, its Experimental Probe and Impact on Charge-Carrier Mobility

Mikhail V. Vener et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the role of low-frequency (LF) vibrational modes in modulating charge transfer integrals in high-mobility organic semiconductor crystals. By analyzing the effect of dynamic disorder on charge carrier dynamics, the importance of LF modes in limiting charge carrier mobility is justified. LF Raman spectroscopy is proposed as a useful tool for experimental study of non-local electron-phonon interaction (NLEPI), which can aid in the screening and rational design of organic semiconductors with high charge-carrier mobility.
