Influencing mechanism of alkali metals on the adsorption property of NH3, NO, O2 and dehydrogenation reaction of NH3 on the β-MnO2 (110) surface: A DFT plus U study

Xin Jian Zhou et al.

Summary: A computational investigation was conducted to explore the effect of K and Na poisoning on the activity of β-MnO2 catalyst. The results showed that K or Na inhibits the adsorption of NH3, leading to a decrease in catalyst activity, while slightly enhancing the adsorption of NO, thereby improving the deNO(x) performance. Additionally, K or Na severely inhibits the NH3 dehydrogenation process but promotes the reaction of *OH+*OH -> H2O+*H. The inhibitory or promoting effect of K is stronger than that of Na. These findings provide theoretical support for understanding the inactivation mechanism of alkali metals and designing more efficient catalysts.

Enhanced alkali resistance of sulfated CeO2 catalyst for the reduction of NOx from biomass fired flue gas

Zizheng Zhou et al.

Summary: Sulfation treatment of CeO2 improves the SCR activity and resistance against K poisoning, attributed to the increased Bronsted acid sites of sulfated CeO2. The addition of K has little effect on NH3 adsorption over sulfated CeO2, but greatly weakens NH3 adsorption on K-doped CeO2.

Deactivation of CeO2-TiO2 catalyst by K2SO4 for NH3-SCR: An experimental and DFT study

Ye Jiang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the poisoning mechanism of K2SO4 on CeO2-TiO2 catalyst, finding that K2SO4 can affect the reducibility and surface acidity of the catalyst, inhibit NH3 adsorption, promote NOx adsorption, and decrease the reactivity of newly formed NOx. Additionally, the presence of K+ and SO42- simultaneously had an adverse effect on surface acidity and redox ability of the catalyst.
