Confinement and Exciton Binding Energy Effects on Hot Carrier Cooling in Lead Halide Perovskite Nanomaterials

Ben P. Carwithen et al.

Summary: In this study, the relaxation of hot carriers in lead halide perovskites (LHPs) and the role of quantum confinement in nanosystems were examined. Ultrafast pump-push-probe spectroscopy was used to study carrier cooling in different size-controlled LHP nanomaterials. The results showed that dimensional confinement has a significant impact on carrier-phonon and carrier-carrier interactions, highlighting its potential for engineering LHP optoelectronic materials.

Room-Temperature Continuous-Wave Microcavity Lasers from Solution-Processed Smooth Quasi-2D Perovskite Films with Low Thresholds

Xiang Gao et al.

Summary: High-quality spin coated quasi-2D perovskite gain films were successfully prepared using an antisolvent to reduce roughness. The highly reflective top DBR mirrors were deposited via room-temperature e beam evaporation to protect the perovskite gain layer. Lasing emission of the prepared quasi 2D perovskite microcavity lasers under CW optical pumping was clearly observed at room temperature, featuring a low threshold of approximately 1.4 W cm-2 and beam divergence of approximately 3.5 degrees.

All-Optical Switching Based on Sub-Bandgap Photoactivation of Charge Trapping in Metal Halide Perovskites

Sushu Wan et al.

Summary: Controllable photoluminescence in metal halide perovskite crystals is achieved through photoactivation of defects. It is found that the photoluminescence intensity of CH3NH3PbBr3 crystal can be fully controlled by sub-bandgap energy photon illumination. This optically controllable emission behavior is observed in CsPbBr3 and other perovskite materials. The discovery of green luminescence controlled by red illumination is believed to expand the application scope of perovskites toward optical devices and intelligent control.

Confinement and Exciton Binding Energy Effects on Hot Carrier Cooling in Lead Halide Perovskite Nanomaterials

Ben P. Carwithen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the carrier cooling process in size-controlled lead halide perovskite nanomaterials using ultrafast pump-push-probe spectroscopy. The results show that there is only a weak size effect on the cooling dynamics in cuboidal nanocrystals, while the hot phonon bottleneck effect commonly observed in bulk perovskites is suppressed in two-dimensional systems.

Photophysics of Two-Dimensional Semiconducting Organic-Inorganic Metal-Halide Perovskites

Daniel B. Straus et al.

Summary: Two-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites (2DHPs) have tunable structural and optical properties, with the organic cation playing a key role. Despite excitons residing in the metal-halide layers, the organic and inorganic frameworks must be considered as a whole to fully understand the photophysics. The cation-induced distortion and disorder in the inorganic lattice are correlated with the resulting optical properties.

Spacer Switched Two-Dimensional Tin Bromide Perovskites Leading to Ambient-Stable Near-Unity Photoluminescence Quantum Yield

Arnab Mandal et al.

Summary: Semiconductor nanostructures with near-unity photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) are crucial for light-emitting diodes and display devices. This study achieved a high PLQY by stabilizing Sn2+ in a perovskite structure, and found that a longer spacer molecule and out-of-plane octahedral tilting favored higher PLQY. Self-trapped excitons (STEs) were also identified and their characteristics under different conditions were analyzed.

Role of Polycyclic Aromatic Alkylammonium Cations in Tuning the Electronic Properties and Band Alignment of Two-Dimensional Hybrid Perovskite Semiconductors

Dan Han et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that two-dimensional hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (HOIPs) with pi-conjugated molecules as organic moieties exhibit energy and charge transfers between the organic and inorganic layers, suggesting efficient carrier transport for photovoltaic applications. By utilizing density functional theory calculations, researchers have found that the polycyclic aromatic group in n = 1 2D Ruddlesden-Popper phase HOIPs plays a critical role in controlling the functionality of the materials, and the band alignment at the organic-inorganic interface can be tailored to either promote exciton trapping or dissociation for specific applications.
