Sulfonate-modified calixarene-based porous organic polymers for electrostatic enhancement and efficient rapid removal of cationic dyes in water

Lechen Tian et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel porous organic polymer CaPy was constructed and sulfonate groups were anchored onto its skeleton to obtain three sulfonate-modified polymers CaPy-S1, CaPy-S2, and CaPy-S3. The adsorption capacities of these polymers for methylene blue (MB) and Rhodamine B (RhB) were determined and compared. CaPy-S2 showed the highest adsorption capacity and one of the highest adsorption speeds among the tested polymers.

The Sonogashira Coupling on Palladium Milling Balls-A new Reaction Pathway in Mechanochemistry

Wilm Pickhardt et al.

Summary: The Sonogashira coupling was successfully performed on the surface of milling tools using pure Pd and Pd coated steel balls under direct mechanocatalytical conditions. By optimizing co-catalyst forming additives, a protocol was developed that generates quantitative yields for various substrates within as little as 90 minutes under aerobic conditions. Spectroscopic, diffractive, and in situ methods identified a previously unknown and highly reactive complex of the co-catalyst copper, which differs from known complexes in liquid phase Sonogashira couplings, suggesting different reaction pathways in mechanochemistry.

Pd/Cu-Catalyzed Synthesis of Internal and Sila-Ynones by Direct Selective Acyl Sonogashira Cross-Coupling of Carboxylic Acids with Terminal Alkynes

Xue Liu et al.

Summary: The direct acyl Sonogashira cross-coupling of carboxylic acids with terminal alkynes has been achieved through Pd/Cu cooperative catalysis, offering a method to prepare ynones directly from carboxylic acids. The reaction shows high chemoselectivity, functional group tolerance, and good to high yields of ynones. It has synthetic value in organic synthesis, demonstrated by late-stage modification of bioactive molecules and gram-scale experiments.

Adjusting Local CO Confinement in Porous-Shell Ag@Cu Catalysts for Enhancing C-C Coupling toward CO2 Eletroreduction

Yongzhi Zhong et al.

Summary: The study focused on tuning the local confinement of CO concentration within Cu shells to enhance C-C coupling over Ag@Cu core-shell catalysts, leading to increased selectivity for C2+ products during CO2 electroreduction. The catalyst with an average pore diameter of 4.9 nm exhibited the highest Faradaic efficiency for C2+ products at 300 mA cm(-2) due to the enhanced local CO concentration and linear adsorption configuration of CO intermediates facilitated by the confinement effect.

Splicing the active phases of copper/cobalt-based catalysts achieves high-rate tandem electroreduction of nitrate to ammonia

Wenhui He et al.

Summary: In this study, a design concept of tandem catalysts was proposed to achieve cascade conversion of waste nitrate to valuable ammonia using different transition metal phases. By transforming Cu-Co binary sulfides into Cu/CuOx and Co/CoO phases, efficient NH3 synthesis was achieved. The tandem catalyst system exhibited high Faradaic efficiency and NH3 yield rate in the presence of waste nitrate, and surpassed previous studies in terms of energy efficiency.

Bimetallic monolayer catalyst breaks the activity-selectivity trade-off on metal particle size for efficient chemoselective hydrogenations

Qiaoqiao Guan et al.

Summary: The precise deposition of a platinum monolayer on large gold nanoparticles breaks the trade-off between activity and selectivity, resulting in high activity and 99% selectivity in the platinum-catalysed hydrogenation of halonitrobenzenes. This breakthrough is attributed to the upshift of the platinum 5d-band centre through platinum lattice expansion and ligand effect, as well as the exposure of more terrace sites on large particles, providing a promising platform for the rational design of metal catalysts with superior performance in hydrogenation reactions.

In Situ Raman Observation of Oxygen Activation and Reaction at Platinum-Ceria Interfaces during CO Oxidation

Di-Ye Wei et al.

Summary: The study investigates the activation and reaction of active oxygen species during CO oxidation at platinum-ceria interfaces using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, revealing the evolution of different oxygen species and reaction pathways. Oxygen efficiently dissociates into chemisorbed O on Pt and lattice Ce-O species simultaneously at interfacial Ce3+ defect sites under CO oxidation, leading to a much higher activity at platinum-ceria interfaces compared to that at Pt alone.
